Rather have him over Green/Barnes so I like it. _________________

When he was released I was hoping we would take a look
Not the answer, but its a decent depth move at least with starting experience. _________________

I assume this leads to Jonte Green getting cut and placed on PS. _________________

Where's all the people that blame Mayhew for "ignoring" our DB's? Seems to me he has been consistently seeking upgrades since he got promoted to GM... _________________

My favorite thing about Mayhew (and any successful GM) is that he is always looking to upgrade the depth on the roster. All good teams have depth and are able to replace an injured player. it's something the Lions haven't been able to do for as long as I can remember.
In this situation Florence will be called on to play a larger role than just depth, but it's a good example of the team staying active in an effort to improve the roster.
It's a very nice move. Without him they'd have to scramble, or possibly bring people back from injury too soon and risk them getting seriously hurt. _________________

| He's better than half the people on the roster before so, solid move. Improving in some ways, even just a little is still improving. |

Twentyman is a blogger for the Lions now. Lions don't discuss players that aren't officially signed. Just tells me a deal is agreed to and needs to be approved by the league before it's "official". |

It's something. Not much, but something. It certainly isn't a hard area to improve. _________________

What I've heard over good ol' twitter is that he is gonna be in town tomorrow, and honestly at this point of the season what's the point of coming to the city if you aren't going to sign?
This is a guy who's started 45/46 games available the last three seasons, a consistent player. Yes, he's 31, probably slowing down, but right now he a lot better option then what we currently having rotating out there. I would love this signing, Houston, a decent number one (good overall corner, just not a number one), Florence, a proven number two, Lacy/Bentley, two guys who can contribute in the nickel. Maybe we can slowly move back to labeling this a secondary again. |

If this is Drayton Florence's audition for the Lions then whoopity doo:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/nfl-rapidreports/19997769/broncos-cuts-drayton-florence-gets-the-axe
Don't know how he can be a solid #2 after reading this article. But one person's trash is another's treasure this time of year.
This isn't a major free agent aquisition, just a fill after cuts. They had to fill the position after releasing Alphonso Smith, and if you read that article Florence's pass coverage was apparently very dissapointing this pre-season. I hope Florence is a good tackler, because that's what Gunther Cunningham values from DBs. |

I disagree. Good reliable CBs are hard to find and most if the people that have them, drafted them and dont let them get away until they are slowing down. Finding a good secondary starts with the scouting department. _________________
