That being said, Des, it's great to be able to cook and bake. These are skills that will last you forever and are one of the most rewarding things you can do. |
I was hoping at the end you would say for your future husband..
But regardless I bake and cook as well. I can make a mean German Chocolate Cake. _________________

So I am the only one here who doesn't bake? Like I tried to make cookies the other day and they came out mushy so I re-baked them and then they became burnt.
Whatever. I will out grill any of you! _________________

Nothing wrong with baking. I do it quite often with my son, not so much when I am home alone though. Drew and I are making some pumpkin bread for dessert tonight and breakfast in the morning. _________________

Hey, soft cookies are the best. I like 'em almost doughy.
Speaking of grilling...I've been craving a good, juicy steak with a couple beers... _________________

I'm not a good baker. I can cook, but not bake. The only thing that I can bake well is strawberry cheesecake. Not sure why this is. Well, I do know - I like experimenting when I cook and add a bit of this and a bit of that. Baking requires discipline, which I really don't have. _________________

Which might explain my issue. I believe cooking is based a lot on feeling. I don't measure how many pinches of this out that. Bah! Go with the gut, for it's going in there. _________________

You can still improvise a recipe here and there, at least I do _________________

If you are struggling with baking start out with something small first, and then do trial and error. Before I journeyed into college life, I couldn't make anything for myself. I brought groceries from the local Save-A-Lot (idk if you ever been in one, but there food is cheap off brand) and just cooked/baked until I was good.
It took me about at least 20-30 tries of undercooking and/or burning food to develop that feeling on how or what you should add to a dish... or when it's done.
The sad part this is when I did overcook or burn a dish, I had no choice but to eat it anyway since I didn't have anymore more money _________________

Oh I agree. It's all about trial and error. Love cooking. I make a chicken noodle soup from scratch that takes me all day (no really, 8 hours) to make.
I am kinda in the TSSS camp. I just don't have the patience for baking. And yet - I love smoking some brisket. _________________

Way to rub it in.
In Florida we are still in our summer phase. Hopefully fall will come before December this year. _________________
