I've only lived in Washington, but have been in the other 2. Personally, I prefer Western Washington, but the Oregon Coast is great too.

A recent archaeological discovery has shattered the stereotype of exclusively male Viking warriors sailing out to war while their long-suffering wives wait at home with baby Vikings. Plus, some other findings are challenging that whole “rape and pillage” thing, too.

Researchers at the University of Western Australia decided to revamp the way they studied Viking remains. Previously, researchers had misidentified skeletons as male simply because they were buried with their swords and shields. (Female remains were identified by their oval brooches, and not much else.) By studying osteological signs of gender within the bones themselves, researchers discovered that approximately half of the remains were actually female warriors, given a proper burial with their weapons.

The presence of female warriors also has researchers now wondering just how accurate the stereotypes of raping and pillaging actually are:

Women may have accompanied male Vikings in those early invasions of England, in much greater numbers than scholars earlier supposed, (Researcher) McLeod concludes. Rather than the ravaging rovers of legend, the Vikings arrived as marriage-minded colonists.

I'm going to create a new General OT thread, but, before I do that, would you all like to continue with the aSK model or do something a little bit different?

My thought, would be to do something fun with the title of each General OT thread that has to do with the number of the thread.

For instance, since this would technically be General OT #4 we could do:

Quote:
General OT #4: The Pieces Are in Place (#4 being Favre and the title being a spoof of something he said).

The thread names would be voted upon by the members here, and it would be a fun way for everyone to potentially contribute to one of our most used threads.

I'm fine with your idea...it's really all about whether Steve will be able to get over not having a thread named for him. Laughing Wink

This shouldn't surprise anyone.

The historical Vikings were not particularly warlike by Mediaeval standards and did not have horns on their helmets. They probably got their nasty reputation because of the Viking raiders that frequented Britain, Ireland and Normandy.

The Vikings were however phenomenal traders and explorers, traversing vast expanses of open ocean centuries before the rest of Europe had that capability. They travelled to the New World 500 years before Columbus. They founded cities as far west as Dublin and as far East as Moscow.

this thread took two years to get to 100+ pages, so i doubt votes for subsequent titles will be too frequent.

Scouting my first ever HS football game tonight.

Just advance scouting our next few opponents, but I'm very excited to be analyzing live instead of via a broadcast or cut up.
