Training Camp has been going on for over a week. It's time for our way-too-soon predictions.
Current roster for reference: http://www.packers.com/team/players.html
My current prediction:
QB: Rodgers, Graham, Coleman (3(3))
RB: Starks, Saine, Green (3(6))
FB: Kuhn (1(7))
WR: Jennings, Nelson, Cobb, Jones, Driver, Gurley (6(13))
OT: Bulaga, Newhouse, Sherrod, Datko (4(17))
OG: Sitton, Lang, Dominguez (3(20))
C: Saturday, EDS (2(22))
TE: Finley, Williams, Taylor, Crabtree (4(26))
DL: Raji, Pickett, Worthy, Daniels, Wilson, Guy (6(32))
ILB: Bishop, Hawk, Smith, Jones (4(36))
OLB: Matthews, Perry, Moses, So'oto (4(40))
CB: Williams, Bush, House, Shields, Heyward (5(45))
S: Burnett, Woodson, Jennings, McMillian, Levine (5(50))
K: Crosby (51)
P: Masthay (52)
LS: Goode (53)
PUP: Quarless
SUS: Neal, Hargrove, Walden
Notes:
-I think Sherrod will get well and avoid PUP but it'll be too late for him to fight for a starting spot.
-I think the last OLB spot belongs to Walden, but because he's going to miss the first game I temporarily gave it to So'oto
-Last ILB was hard to choose because I haven't heard anything about any of our ILBs besides the top three. I went with Jones because of his experience.
-I think Bush stays the starter in base because of his physicality, but I think it's possible one of the other guys (leaning towards House) replaces him at RCB in subpackages.
-Levine is most likely candidate to get cut when Neal gets off suspension. _________________ This is a sig. |

I'll bite.
And win.
QB: Aaron Rodgers, Graham Harrell, BJ Coleman
RB: James Starks, Alex Green, Brandon Saine
FB: John Kuhn
WR: Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, James Jones, Donald Driver, Tori Gurley
TE: Jermichael Finley, DJ Williams, Tom Crabtree, Ryan Taylor
LT: Marshall Newhouse, Andrew Datko
LG: TJ Lang, Ray Dominguez
C: Jeff Saturday, Evan Smith
RG: Joshua Sitton
RT: Brian Bulaga
DL: Jerel Worthy, Mike Daniels, Phil Merling, BJ Raji, Ryan Pickett, CJ Wilson, Lawrence Guy
LB: Clay Matthews, Brad Jones, AJ Hawk, Terrell Manning, Dez Bishop, DJ Smith, Nick Perry, Jamari Lattimore, Vic So'oto
DB: Jarrett Bush, Tramon Williams, Morgan Burnett, Jerome McMillian, Charles Woodson, Casey Heyward, MD Jennings, Sam Shields, Davon House
LS: Brett Goode
K: Mason Crosby
P: Tim Masthay
PS: Brandian Ross, Nic Cooper, Diondre Borel, Samson Genus, Dezman Moses, Anthony Levine, Sean Richardson, Jarrett Boykin
Suspended/PUP/IR: Andrew Quarless, Derrick Sherrod, Frank Zombo, Mike Neal, Erik Walden, Anthony Hargrove
Notes:
Offense
Don't see us cutting Coleman
Gurley would be a big factor in ST
We go light at OL, with the only help in the wings Genus and Sherrod
Borel, Boykin, and Cooper are also PS.
Quarless will be Pup or IR
Defense
No PS dlmen because we have several reinforcements waiting for midseason returns, and because we roster 7 to begin with
I feel like Zombo is going to rush back to fight for a roster spot and get hurt worse.
Walden may not have a roster spot waiting for him after his susp.
We go light at DB but PS Levine, Richardson, and Ross.
PS fan favorite Moses
edit: added red to the players i had on the roster who didn't make it. considering I made this list before Bishop's injury or Benson's signing, i'm pretty proud. also, four of the guys I had on the PS made the actual roster in place of those guys. (pats self on back). _________________

RE: WR/FB?TE breakdown...
I think DJ Williams will play a bigger role in the offense than people expect. I really think MM is going to incorporate the Aaron Hernandez H-back/TE-FB into the offense, as evidenced by both DJ and Ryan Taylor sticking to the roster last year. With Quarless as hurt, I don't know who the backup Finley is going to be (I would guess Gurley), but it does seem like "the other kind" of TE is going to be a fixture. ...probably at the expense of all those traditional fullbacks we used to carry (Hall/Havner/QJ).
I don't know what this means for Kuhn and Crabtree, but I think MM is crazy about these hybrid guys that give Aaron a lot of options on pre-snap adjustments. _________________

I actually started one of these like a month ago. Should I just pull that one up? It had a scoring system and everything _________________

I'd like that actually. A lot of us had some work in progress predictions in there already, and I had been meaning to try and dig up that thread again. _________________

| I can't predict the roster, but I hope we keep three QB's and B.J. Coleman makes the roster. I think B.J. has a lot of potential. |

Little shocked there are only two with Muir making this team. I don't even think he would be close to that cut/53 line for me. He might not have the upside of a few others but he might just be the best DL on this Packers roster RIGHT NOW not named Pickett or Raji. LIS, much better football player today than he was his first go round in Green Bay. Very active for a big guy, and as stout as any after Pickett. _________________

IMO
Specialists(3)
Masthay, Crosby, Goode
Offense (24)
QB(3): Rodgers, Harrell, Coleman
WR(5): Jennings, Nelson, Cobb, Jones, Driver
RB(4): Green, Saine, Starks, Kuhn
TE(4): Finley, Crabtree, Williams, Taylor
OL(9): Newhouse, Lang, Saturday, Sitton, Bulaga, EDS, Datko, Wells, Sherrod
Defense(26)
DL(6): Raji, Pickett, Wilson, Worthy, Muir, Daniels
LB(9): Matthews, Perry, Hawk, Smith, Lattimore, Jones, Francois, Moses, So'oto
DB(10): Woodson, Williams, House, Burnett, Hayward, Doc Jennings, Shields, Bush, Richardson, McMillan.
Reserve/Suspended(3):Hargrove, Neal, Walden.
Injured Reserve(1): Bishop.
PUP(1): Quarless
Conceivably Sherrod will be left on PUP and Bishop will be kept on the roster, though unable to play much of the season. I'm about 50/50 on this as I don't have any of the relevant medical information. Please don't ask who, if anybody, will be cut in order to make room for the returning suspended or PUP players. I have no idea. |

Changed mine to Muir from Merling, it was a toss-up for me at the time and I'll take your suggestion now
I'm curious to see who gets a spot (if it comes down to it) between guys like Cooper, Taylor, Gurley and Boykin.
Also the last 1 or 2 LB spots are tough to call right now as well. I haven't seen much from Manning and don't know what his chances are. |

Your post above was the one that caught my eye on Muir not being in these. I agree with you there though. I take Muir over Merling 10 times out of 10. Muir might not look the part on paper like Merling but you know what you are going to get each week.
Boykin is a tough call. Kid looks bad enough on paper that he might make the PS. But he is a good bit more pro ready than most PS hands and might be lost at some point by a team in need post injury. Boykin is very much so a poor man's James Jones though. Gurley just brings more gameday value right now to a team that's close and Boykin might not have enough upside to force the hand.
Agree with you on the LB's. That thing is not done playing itself out just yet. I kinda hope that's the case at safety also. I still like Levine a bit more than Jennings and it looks like the rookie has his plate full with the dime work and teams play. Richardson has looked better than I felt he would also. Just sayin. Hope that thing is not set in stone yet because I'm just not sold on Jennings. _________________
