He's ok as a blocker. He's primarily been the pass catching TE until his wheels went bad. So he's not a mauler in the sense of what you'd expect from a blocking TE. But he is serviceable, does ok at blocking and would be a great fit for you guys as a #2.

DCRED and I were just talking last night about trading Cooley to the Jets to be their #2 TE. Guess his $4M salary was too much.

I feel this one could come back to bite us.

I'm sure we tried to trade him but couldn't because of his salary. I wish we had kept him but asked him to take a pay cut.

I really don't trust fred davis as far as I could throw him, which is no where. Paulsen isn't the same type of player and Paul still has a lot to learn.

Cooley defines the Washington redskins imo. Arguably the greatest TE to ever lace it up for the redskins and he will be missed. I'd like to thank for his service to not only the redskins but to the entire washington dc community, he will greatly be missed.

Thank you for everything Captain Chaos! #47 forever.

Truth. Unfortunate as his jersey was my first Redskins merchandise purchase. Wish him all the best, but Fred and Niles have the pass catching and they clearly value Paulsen as a blocker.

All the best Cooley.

He's gotten very light though-- dropped 20 lbs or more.. Referring to his blocking ability ..

Don't look now but with them releasing Cooley like this, I can see how they will keep 7 WRs and Banks is now safe.

As much as I liked Cooley I think this is great news. Not in the fact that we lost Cooley but that the front office keeps players based off performance. Names just don't get to stick around. If Cooley one of the popular Redskins can be let go it goes to show u anyone can. You have to perform to be on the team and I think that is great news.

Not me, I think it goes to RB or a defensive position. Maybe Worthington or Rob Jackson, perhaps David Jones or Bernstine.

Equally likely scenarios, to be sure.

I'd probably say that's true, they've been praising all 7 wrs.

BTW--maybe someone mentioned it and I missed it but the Pats cut Jabbar Gaffney ..

If an OL gets cut, why would we spend the $4M on him? He was cut by someone for a reason. Give him league minimum + incentives.

Oh yeah sure. But what I meant was without cutting Cooley I don't even know if we would have been able to pay someone that without More roster moves lol!!!

I'm happy to see some money get freed up so that we have options when these cuts go down. Maybe (probably) we bring in a FEW players now, wasn't really expecting a BIG name signing
