What The Game Means
Let's just say it. We freaking hate the Giants. P.E.R.I.O.D. We hate everything about them. We hate the "spirit" of the salary cap and want to kick their arse just for that alone. In the history of watching the NFL, I can't remember a team that gets luckier than the Giants. The Giants have won 2 SBs in seasons that they should have missed the playoffs. Watching the Giants win last year was a slap in the face because a simple completion that Romo and Austin complete 98% of the time would have eliminated them from the playoffs. In a sick way, the Giants winning makes every Cowboy fan ask the ugliest question in sports, "what if...???" I cannot remember a first game that, as a fan, I wanted the Cowboys to win more than this one. Why? This game is about redemption.
Keys To Game
We learned by sad experience last year that there are 2 keys to the game.
1. Protect Romo from the Giants DL. In 2 games against the giants, Romo was sacked 9 times. Doug Free stood no chance at all against JPP. This year, Tyron Smith will be locked up on JPP. Smith is much more physically talented than Free, but Smith is also green. I expect him to struggle against JPP. This means Romo will have to be at his elusive best and make fast decisions with the ball. Also, DeMarco Murray should be a boost out of the backfield when Romo is under pressure.
2. Cowboys secondary against the Giants WRs. In 2 games against the Cowboys, Eli threw for 750 yards. Nicks and Cruz took turns whipping the Cowboys secondary for huge gains. IMO, those 2 games where the catalyst for the Cowboys to totally revamp their secondary. I have no doubt that Carr and Claiborne will be a major over the trash in the secondary last year.
