Coye also offers a return threat, something we currently lack (what with all the injuries).

On McCann though, come on, provide some positive evidence, don't just slay our 2 second year students

Raiders signed Roscoe Parish, so the return game should be in order. Though they need a gunner.

As for 'evidence'. McCann is a better ST player, so has more value on the team. He also was running first team NB against Arizona with Huff out. Gave up a catch, but was right in position w/ the tackle.

Point is, he's not been noticeably awful ala the other 2. McCann could easily be replaced, which just shows how bad the depth is a CB.

But IMO, VHS will stay because he's shown something to work w/ in practice. Checkwa is gone because he's hasn't shown much of nothing.

The Raiders claimed cornerback Coye Francies off waivers, less than a day after he was waived by the Seattle Seahawks.

So Reggie clearly sees that VHS and Checkwa are liabilities.

I agree with your comments on McCann first off.

Coye Francies also played at SJ state where Keith Burns was his DB coach. So we have extended info on this guy.

like BP said it shows we arent thrilled with the cb depth i know i`m not, but i`m not thrilled about te depth ,rb depth (due to shaky health), and c depth, etc. we`ll see what shakes out the next week or so.

my personal wish list: cooley, ivory(this is very wishful thinking) stronger c, another solid vet olb (like burris but he is a rook) another solid vet cb.

but like mick says "ya cant always get what ya want" Laughing

IBABuzz gave predictions on the final 53

Steve Corkran wrote:
LOCKS

FB Marcel Reece and Owen Schmitt
WR Jacoby Ford, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Denarius Moore, Juron Criner, Rod Streater and Roscoe Parrish
TE Brandon Myers, David Ausberry and Richard Gordon
OL Jared Veldheer, Cooper Carlisle, Stefen Wisniewski, Mike Brisiel, Khalif Barnes, Joseph Barksdale, Alex Parsons and Tony Bergstrom
DL Matt Shaughnessy, Lamarr Houston, Richard Seymour, Tommy Kelly, Desmond Bryant, Dave Tollefson and Christo Bilukidi
LB Rolando McClain, Philip Wheeler and Miles Burris
CB Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer
S Michael Huff, Tyvon Branch, Mike Mitchell and Matt Giordano
K Sebastian Janikowski
P Shane Lechler

43 players are locks. That leaves 10 spots from the following players.

ON THE BUBBLE
QB None
RB Mike Goodson and Lonyae Miller
FB None
WR Travionte Session
TE None
OL None
DL Jamie Cumbie, Jack Crawford and Dominique Hamilton
LB Aaron Curry (likely to remain on the physically-unable-to-perform list because of sore knees), Travis Goethel and Carl Ihenacho
CB DeMarcus Van Dyke, Chimdi Chekwa, Pat Lee and Bryan McCann
S Brandon Underwood
K None
P None

LONG-SHOTS
QB None
RB None
FB None
WR Eddie McGee, Derek Carrier and Brandon Carswell
TE Tory Humphrey and Kyle Efaw
OL Dan Knapp, Kevin Haslam, Lucas Nix, Nick Howell and Colin Miller
DL Hall Davis
LB Kaelin Burnett, Chad Kilgore and Nathan Stupar
CB Coye Francies
S Curtis Taylor
K Eddy Carmona
P Marquette King

Pretty fair for me. Although I feel like some of the 'On the Bubble' guys are likely to make but just aren't 'Locks'. Only thing I'd do is swap Kilgore and Crawford since Kilgore is solid on ST and has made some plays this preseason while Crawford has been hurt. But I might be biased. Hoping Hamilton sticks.

If that is the case my final 10
DVD

Chekwa- too young to give up on... Nnamdi didn't do much until his 3rd year

Goodsen or Lonyae-- edge to Goodsen unless he coughs it up

Pat Lee or McCann- either guy can be 5th corner/ gunner

Cumbie or Dom Hamilton- 5th Dt run stuffer, close call

Travis Goethel

Carl Ihenacho- both make it for LB depth

Knapp or Nix as 9th lineman. Slight edge to Nix (more potential)

Jack Crawford- has potential needs to develop, 4th DE

that is 8 guys

Francies, Taylor, Underwood, Kilgore, Stupar, Carrier, Mcgee need to have a hell of a game to make the team

Hope
King goes on IR
Curry goes on the PUP list

that would leave us two spots to add a player

A young back who gets released ala
Chris Polk

promising LB who is lost in a numbers game

I don't get the Chekwa hate on here.

He may not be that good, but at least he makes plays here & there. In fact, he's outperformed DVD in every single preseason game. Not to mention he was better than DVD last year, too. Tarver mentioned it today - he needs to play with more consistency.

As bad as they both have been, I don't see DVD or Chekwa getting released this year. We have no one else on the roster to kick either of them out of the way.

Checkwa sucks. Playing better than DVD means nothing. They are both bad cover corners. Classic Davis draft picks. Speed over actual football skill.

Checkwa was worked by Kellen Moore last week. They drove down for a score effortlessly with DVD and Moore at CB.

Both IMO are LONG LONG term projects. Lee is better today and my guess is Reggie has both replaced w/ better talent before the end of this season.

I'm not discrediting any of that. I'm simply saying Chekwa has proven to be better than DVD. Both are easily upgradeable, just not with anyone on our roster right now. Pat Lee hasn't shown me much either.

Fact of the matter is, CB depth is poor right now. If Bartell or Spencer go down, things could get brutal.

+1. He blocked the extra point last night and was a beast early on in preseason.

So true. Could Mark Davis be carrying on the legacy of interfering with his front office/coaching? haha

Roscoe Parrish's contract was terminated.

Kinda feel bad for the guy. Local guy and one of the better returnmen in the league and he has an awful night.
