| Quote: | The Falcons released eight players and reached agreements with three others to cut their roster down to 77 players on Saturday.
The Falcons waived tight end Chase Coffman, linebacker Max Gruder, kicker Erik Folk, running back Richard Medlin, fullback Lee Meisner, defensive end Louis Nzegwu, wide receiver Kenny Stafford and tight end Aron White.
Also, the team placed tackle Will Svitek on injured reserve and reached injury settlements with defensive tackle Elisha Joseph and cornerback Darrin Walls.
The roster currently stands at 77 players. The league requires that roster be cut down to 75 players by 4 p.m. on Monday.
The Falcons must cut the roster down to 53 players by Friday. They can add eight players to practice squad on Saturday. |

Nzegwu was surprising.
Also thought we might have kept Folk, but that FG yesterday was awful as hell. We will draft a K in the next 3 or so years. _________________

I really hope this means LaMark Brown is kept as the #3 TE. _________________

I think our staff really likes Thompson. Who knows though at this point at CB who we will keep. _________________

And rightly.
We aren't putting three TE's on the field except at the goalline/short yardage. When that happens, the guy needs to block, which Brown can't do ATM.
A year on the PS will do him good, although if he has a huge game 4 and none of the receivers stand out, I guess he could be kept as a 5th WR / 4th TE. I still think a WR or TE will be a target from other team's final cuts. _________________

Doubt it..bad decision for Nzegwu to come to the Falcons. 6 drafted DEs and he was the only free agent....I can almost guarantee he didn't get the equal opportunity to make the team as any other player. What will probably happen is that they use Cliff Matthews and Jonathan Mass as practice squad players but still make the roster but as inactives. His cut was clearly Depth Issues no other position has a complete string of players drafted. |
