Former Jets/Bears DE Vernon Gholston has signed a contract today with the St. Louis Rams.
Gholston is a former #6 overall pick for with the Jets, but never registered a sack in 45 career games. Gholston has always been a physical specimen, but just could never put it together on the field whether it be because of a poor work ethic or fundamentals. Defensive line coach Mike Waufle will try to make something out of his athleticism. He will compete with DE Eugene Sims and William Hayes for a roster spot.
DE Andre Carter also worked out today. Apparently head coach Jeff Fisher was more impressed with Gholston. _________________

| Remember when people wanted him over Chris Long? He beat Jake Long once for a sack in college, and pictures came out of him doing his predraft workouts and people were like oh mer gerd muscles! Hall of famer. |

I personally like the signing. Why not try to coach this guy up? But it's hard to love it or hate it simply because there's no risk involved and the Rams have nothing to lose. _________________

He's been in the league for 4 years now, really think he is what he is at this point.....but like you said, no risk involved. |

i think the reason he didnt do so well with those teams is because there seems to be drama surrounding those teams a lot of time. i personally like this pick up because like Jonezy said i wont hurt us if he doesnt make the cut. i would love to see him make the team though i think he could produce for us which would be another steal for us in this wonderful preseason. _________________ http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/jotto89/SamBradfordsig2.jpg |

Not exactly ecstatic about it but why not give him a shot. Hopefully fisher can turn him into something at least decent! _________________

| Young, athletic, and cheap. I think he will do well in a less dramatic atmosphere without the pressure of being a top draft pick playing in NY. They were also trying to convert him, instead of letting him be a pass rusher. |

I agree especially with the trying to convert him point. I think he wasn't not a good fit in 3-4 defense with Jets. Plus now there is no pressure on him to perform now that he isn't in a bigger market team. |

Fisher loves DT's. i think he will make the team and be good instead of lining up against some of the toughest O lineman in the league in the afc east. plus he might play against the cowboys O line in this next preseason game so he should shine there. _________________ http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/jotto89/SamBradfordsig2.jpg |

But hey, he's a strong freak at 270lbs. He could definitely play DT in passing situations. _________________
