Roddy just said "we just go out there" about 15 times. |

Playing football in the rain, probably fun. Sitting in the rain watching your team get dominated, probably not fun for the Fins fans. _________________

Please no! I thought he was a borderline 5th round prospect. |
You know how slow this organization is at getting rid of players. I think that stubborness will keep JPW as #3 and Davis on the PS, although I hope not. _________________

Even in this horrible rain, Davis just threw a perfect pass on the run on third and long. Too bad Coffman dropped it. _________________

Decent all-around game against a bad team. I'll take it. _________________

I only got to watch the starters, and can I just say that I HATE our O line! Even Clabo gave up sacks today, that's terrible! I really hope Holmes did well, even if it was against backups. The rest of our team looks pretty legit though. _________________

I can't wait for this season to begin.. Julio himself has me drooling and excited about opening up our offense. Our duo of Rowdy Roddy and Julio is hands down the best 1-2 punch at wide-out in the entire NFL. _________________

* Julio is an absolute beast and the way he can adapt to any screen or deep ball is just astounding to me
* Domonique Davis has got to be the best backup QB we've had since Schaub. If he isn't #2 on opening day then our coaches are just a lost cause
* Jaquizz just looks better and better startin to remind me of the warrick dunn days
* Decoud and Willy Moare just really comin into their own now. I am lovin their style in the new scheme
* Sidbury's technique is really impressing me and Kroy is looking like a ballplayer again. Not much action from our multi-million dollar 'aces' Ray and Abe though

* Redman needs to be dropped to 3rd string, his reflexes are not what they used to be. JPW needs to be gone he hasn't looked good since college.
* Sam Baker and Garret Reynolds are both playing out of position it looks like. Switch them around or let Konz and Holmes play for the love of all that is holy

cant decide how I feel about Dunta right now. Samuel and Grimes are looking good out there. Still haven't really seen what we were all hoping for out of James Rodgers. _________________ formerly MadAtFalcons |

Along with our O line troubles, we really need to take a page out of the Saints or Patriots playbook when it comes to red zone efficiency. Succesful teams in the NFL do a better job in the red zone than we do at the moment. Also, I really want to see how we fare against a good qb, our defense looks legit. _________________

I dont think edwards will be a big sack guy and Im fine with it. One thing I noticed is that in obvious passing situations we had an end standing up almost always. Is wasnt a real 3-4 but that guy standing was never Edwards. Hes going to anchor the edge and let Kroy/JA/Sidburry do their thing. |

You're completely right. I would say Ray Edwards is an average pass rusher, but he is probably a top 10 DE in the league as a run stuffer. I know what everyone is thinking, that sucks we need a pass rusher, however if we use Ray right it would be okay. Just make sure he's not in on passing situations. He can still get some sacks and make plays in the run game on first and second downs, then just get a specialist in there. I think that's partially why we drafted Massaquoi. Kroy is our primary guy to put in in those situations, Sidbury if Abe needs a break too. Massaquoi is depth and a few plays a game guy for us this year.
Also really like what I've seen from our ends when they stand. Abe has played both on the line and standing so he's familiar, and I think Kroy and Sidbury looked natural too. Massaquoi can also do both. _________________

Lamar Holmes looked good. my breakdown play by play for him. I'd love to have him start over Baker.
Holmes looked very good in pass pro. First two pass plays he was in, pushed guy onto a wide arc allowing QB over 4 seconds of pass pro. 2 +
On his next two plays, the run was to the opposite side of the field. Didn't let man through though, two neutral grades.
Gets a negative grade on a false start penalty. can't have procedural problems.
Another run to the right side for neutral. Then on following run to left, pushes his man across formation. + grade for that block.
Two more pass blocks that he neutralizes a bull rush on and gives QB over 4 seconds of time for plus grades.
Run to the left, good push despite bad technique but moves guy back 5 yards to create hole, + grade. after that two neutral runs up middle.
In pass pro, QB rolls right and Holmes disappears from screen, but his man didn't touch Davis. neutral grade.
Run to opposite side again, neutral grade. Good pass block against speed rusher. stonewalled rusher again for a plus grade.
on run play, pulled across formation and blew up a linebacker. + block. next play run to other side, neutral grade.
run to right side again, neutral grade. on draw play, sold pass block and forced DE to run arc completely out of play +grade on that.
run to his side on next play, helped open hole, but LB blitz through it caused 4 yard loss. Was neutralizing DE, so neutral grade.
Holmes, 20 snaps, 8 + (5 pass, 3 run), 1 - (penalty false start), the rest were neutral plays. Dude looks better than Baker.
Overall, Holmes looks like a natural pass blocker. Average run blocker. Exactly what the Falcons need.
all from my twitter feed as I re-watched the game. _________________
