Thank god we got him extended! I want to see the terms of the contract when it is revealed, but nice job by Smith to get a guy we cant afford to lose locked up.
Edit: Nick Scurfield says it's not official, but they have been talking.

I'm with-holding judgment until I see the financials. While I am happy to have locked him up, I question the leverage that we had in these negotiations. He was coming off his best season as a pro, so did we over-pay for him based on his one terrific season? If we got him for an amount below the top guys in the league, then I'd be happy for it. If we paid him the highest amongst all tackles in the league, then I'm not thrilled with it.
Same applies to Barwin and Schaub. I don't mind the idea of locking up either of those guys right now at the right price. _________________

Would rather have gotten Barwin first. _________________ Welcome to Houston, DeAndre Hopkins! |

I am speculating that we had to get this done before Clady's deal or else demands could have gotten outrageous. I'm ready for the numbers to come out. _________________

We dodged another bullet. Foster and Duane could of easily demanded more. Grateful... _________________

I'm very surprised at the numbers. I expected something closer to what Jordan Gross got in 2009 (6years 60million) which would have made Brown a top5 paid OT by average salary. He's still in the top 10 average salary but that was definitely a discount. _________________

After a seriously bad rookie year, Duane Brown has been one of the best 1st round picks that Rick Smith has made as the GM of the Texans. _________________

I will take it 100 times out of 100.
Given the changes he's made to this roster in the last two years, Rick Smith has GOT to win GM of the year. I'll admit - we have to see how the right side of the OL pans out before we can REALLY say everything has turned to gold, but for the most part, he's been nothing short of fantastic. _________________
