Very disappointing, on punt coverage on the first pre-season game Sad

(ACL)

That's really unfortunate. I like him. He's had some bad luck with injuries.

This means Carpenter is probably the primary backup. If Spikes misses time, we'll probably see more Hightower at MLB with Carpenter at Sam.

Sucks. Good for the team that they have capable replacements at the ready, but really a tough blow for Fletcher.

More pressure on Mayo and Hightower.

Do Fletcher and Spikes really play the same role, though? I always saw Fletcher as more of a coverage LB.

Fletcher would have been my pick to backup SAM with Hightower kicking to MIKE if Spikes is out. I guess that falls to Ninkovich now which means one injury in the LB corps and Scott is a starter at LE.

The best thing for the Patriots' depth issues up front would be for Cunningham to establish himself as a starting DE allowing Ninkovich to play a swing role - keeping everyone fresh. I really don't trust Spikes' knee at this point and it seems inevitable that Carpenter/Tarpinian/Rivera/White will be seeing a fair bit of time on defense.
