| Quote: | | Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress is flying today to New England to work out for the Patriots, the team he helped beat in SBXLII. More on ESPN. |

Pretty surprising move as the Patriots seem pretty stack at the position, but it was reported that Burress will play for the veteran minimum recently and that appeals to some teams.
Burress could be another redzone weapon for the Patriots high scoring offense.
He played last season with the Jets and recorded 45 catches for 612 yards and 8 TDs in 13 starts.
If he signs it could be the end for both Branch and Stallworth.
***Update***
| Quote: | | Pats doing due diligence on several players: hearing they will host former Packers T Chad Clifton in addition to Burress. |

Probably won't see anything come from this, but it's intriguing if nothing else. He's got 4 inches on every other realistic option to make the roster. _________________ Shut up, NBT |

That last spot is a toss up between Stallworth/Branch/Gaffney/Buress.
I dunno , Never liked Buress but he is nasty in the redzone. Kinda want him over all those guys.
Welker/Lloyd/Edelman/Slater are the only deff spots I see the rest of the guys are going to have to earn the spot. _________________

I think Gaffney is probably a lock. _________________

Yea I'd say Him and Branch lead the race for that next spot. I think we'll see more Edelman playing WR and Slater mostly ST. Buress has the most upside compared to some of the guys on the bubble. His size alone would make our Redzone offense freakin scary. _________________

I wouldn't mind seeing him brought in to provide more competition, but for giggles, just imagine seeing a formation run out there with Lloyd, Plax, Welker, Gronk, Hernandez _________________ Stevan Ridley, Att: 225, Yds: 1010, Y/A: 4.0, TD:9

Gaffney is a lock. By far a better WR w/ any QB and has been better w/ Brady.
Honestly I doubt we sign Burress. This could be a favor to get him some interest because I doubt he sigs here and enough WRs are hurt that we'd sign him. _________________

| At this point Gaffney is a lock and Burress might bring more to the table than Branch or Stallworth. |

Clifton is a great guy to keep an eye on. He can be a nice fill-in if we face issues on the OL. _________________

He would be a nice fill-in if he comes with a time machine.
He's finished at this point. Between age and injury, his play has declined significantly |

Would be surprised if either makes the roster, but if either does, they would assumedly be healthy, in shape, and back to form which would be excellent.
Burress would likely do nothing but redzone packages for us. Good blocker, obviously a huge strong receiver who can win fades. Not the best route runner, but that's minimized in the redzone, especially when near the goal line.
Clifton I was surprised at first the Packers released him, but I assume they did their due diligence and believe he's basically done. I can't imagine them dumping him unless they were completely sure he was unsalvageable.
Really don't know how Buress would make the roster.
Locks: Welker/Lloyd/Gaffney/Slater
Bubble: Edelman/Branch/Stallworth/Burress.
I just can't see Burress making the cut over Edelman who is dynamic in STs and can emergence spot defense, Branch who is Bradys best friend, or Stallworth who while not exactly a fantastic receiver, is a guy who we know fits in our system, and BB has gone out of his way to compliment his maturity, work ethic, and professionalism. All compared to Burress who is a selfish player who runs mildly sloppy routes and has shown he makes dumb decisions at times (though admittedly they did go way over the top and make him a scapegoat and example of, unfairly). _________________

Just had an interesting thought regarding goal line offense.
He's always been a plus blocker as a WR.
Could he be converted to TE now that he's lost his speed but still has that size? _________________
