I don't know about the "Goodbye Cam" part but, Colts fans couldn't have asked for a better debut than this.
I thought the Colts offensive line early on was atrocious and Luck had pressure on every snap. He handled it VERY well and made smart decisions spread it around pretty good. His poise and command was impressive in a spot where most rookies would display jitters under the microscope Luck was under today...especially with it being the only game on today and the whole world watching.
I thought he looked great. _________________ 44 and 21 Once a Giant, always a Giant

He did look great, and he WILL be one of the better QBs in the game, but the hype is ridiculous. His first play, while it WAS for a TD, was a routine screen pass to a RB that did all the work and took it 63 yards. Then you hear the announcer, "ANDREW LUCK! YOU COULDN'T SCRIPT IT ANY BETTER THAN THAT!"
Like I said, he did look great for his first outing, but I have a feeling that screen play was very telling on how overhyped he is. _________________

We should wait until he's played at least a full meaningless game before we make statements like this. Right now he's only played in part of a meaningless game. _________________

What fun is that then?
Nothing wrong with making projections, as long as you stick around when you are wrong. |

Projections are one thing.
Pimping a half of a good presason outing is another.
Again...I think Luck will be awesome. But people get to excited about players looking good in it. Obviously...some of it will carry over, but not all of it. If it did, guys like Limas Sweed and Anthony Smith would be pro bowl players for the Steelers, and after the first prseason game I could say Steve McClendon will be an amazing 34 NT.
Sadly...I cant say any of those....still hope for the 3rd though, I suppose. _________________

Luck may become a better player, but I highly doubt he'll ever be as big of a star as Cam Newton. _________________

And thats an example of overrating Cam Newton at this point. _________________

I kind of agree. Cam Newton is a marketable face and personality. Luck on the other hand makes Peyton Manning look like the coolest guy on Earth by comparison. _________________

Im not saying its wrong...just that at this point, its premature.
Mike Vick is a bigger "star" than several QBs who are clearly...CLEARLY better players.
I guess it just depends what you mean?
Bigger star in terms of general popularity? Cam has the better chance, probably.
Bigger star in terms of better football player? Way too early. _________________

Cam Newton has unprecedented, historic rookie season
As a result, people expect Luck and Griffin to do the exact same thing

Cam played well for a full, meaningful 16 games.
Luck has play well for part of a meaningless preseason game against an inexperienced defense playing in a new scheme that still needs to add more talent.
Luck IMO will be great....and eventually better than Cam IMO...but right now...this is just a classic kneejerk. |
That is exactly what the OP stated. Hows is your opinion not a kneejerk but his is?
Luck looked legit. He is going to be the real deal in this league. |

He made a thread saying Luck will be the best after one preseason game.
I made a post saying, down the road, Luck could be better than Cam.
If you dont know the difference, I cant help you. _________________

I'm at work about an hour away from Indy right now...if you think this topic is a knee-jerk, you should hear some of these people in Indiana today. Luck this, Luck that, you'd think Peyton Manning never existed. lol
I always loved Luck's ability, so this game is no shock to me. I think he's a top five QB in four years...max. _________________

Probably just a feel good thing. You know. It must have been hard to let go of Manning, psychologically as a fan, so this new guy with talent comes in its easy to want to root for him, over hype him and really pull for him. Somewhat similar to Aaron Rodgers, post Favre, but not to that extreme since everyone HATED Favre whereas most Indy fans probably love Manning. |
