Yes, but this is not really Leslie Frazier's decision.
Christian Ponder really struggled with Adrian Peterson out of the lineup last year, and if Ponder busts then it falls on Rick Spielman.
There's a commercial side to this too, with the team needing to sell tickets and advertising. |
And if Adrian says he's healthy and the docs says he's healthy, how would it help ticket sales to sit out your star player who has been medically cleared to play? _________________

That was kind of my point. I am a little worried that the decision was fuelled by the need to sell tickets and advertising. Not just for this year, but also down the road for the new stadium. _________________

I dont think there will be any problems selling tickets once the new stadium opens. Our star player could be Sanford and those tickets would still sell. _________________

Given the physical and violent nature of the NFL game, it makes no sense to say "Adrian, you get 4 carries this half, or game etc." Psychologically, for a warrior and workhorse like Peterson, a statement like that would be damning, so he'd go out and try to over-do it which would greatly increase his risk of re-injuring the knee.
From what's been shown on tape, AP will be able to play, but the kicker is whether or not he'll be smart about falling. If some LB squares him up and holds him while he's fighting it and another player hits him from the side, much less low, that may be all it takes - pop!
However, in practice, if he gets hit and hit hard up high, he'll be able to tell how it's holding up. As they progress on hitting him, his confidence will go up -- but he still needs to learn when not to fight for that extra inch.
The final boost to Adrian confidence will be the jukes and cuts -- hope to see those soon and often. |

And of course it could simply be a case where the Vikings decided that taking Adrian off the PUP list now gives them more flexibility in terms of how and when they can ease him back onto the field.
If he stays on the PUP list he's out for the first six games, he's not allowed to practice, then once he comes off the Vikings would only have three weeks to activate him or place him on IR.

How is going to help the future of the team by running your star running back into the ground for a few lost seasons? |

by your theory, should we just never play Adrian at all since the season will be lost anyway? what about next year, should that theory apply as well? |

Is he getting over an injury that would sideline a normal athlete? He had two significant injuries in less than a year and cost this team quite a bit. What would be good for the team, would be for him to rest, so we can continue our build. We're not going to be competing this year. We could be competing next year. |

That is not what the owner, coaches or players think. |

Especially Jared Allen and probably Percy Harvin. Last thing you want to do is alienate your best players over perceptions of not being competitive. |

Since when was the season lost?
No team is ever guarenteed to succeed/fail, so to say right now that this is a lost season is ridiculous. _________________

heck, why not just forfeit every game right now, go 0-16, and get the top pick in every round next year? we save any potential injury on our players this year, and don't tire them out by asking them to play meaningless games.
i'm sure they'd all buy in to that plan, you know.
not. _________________

No kidding, especially the head coach who is fighting for his job or the owner who finally got the stadium issue resolved. Last thing the state wants to do is fund a stadium for a bunch of quitters who dont think they are good enough to compete. |
