This is prolly one of my favorite signing the Packers have made in a very long time. Cedric isn't a spry chicken anymore but he is a very good option and can be the type of back to help our run game. I love him on third downs and receiving out of the back field and this is just a good pick up in my opinion.

Does anyone see this playing out as starks as the 3rd down back? He's been getting the reps there despite everyone (myself included) assuming it was Green's job to lose.

The closer RB and a real goaline option is pretty appealing when you look at benson in a bottle. Short yardage has been a consistent failure point for this team back to the time when we were dipping into the Donald Driver reverse to pick up a 4th and 1. Very tired of Kuhn getting the first crack and failing and I'm excited to see Kuhn blocking on a goaline play for once.

I'm almost thinking he is direct competition FOR Starks. Green seems to be the future. Not much competion from Benson there. Saine has great hands and is our best at blitz pickup. Not much competition from Benson there. Starks is our "get what's there" back.there Exactly what Benson can do for you. Would be surprised to see both Benson and Starks both on the week 1 roster. They don't provide much versatility and their skillsets seem to overlap.

No real issue with this one pending dollars. Money needs to work though because that's anything but a styles match in Mac's fit. Needs the reps for the style to truly excel. Will be nice to have a guy that can close out games. Will be nice to have a better short/goal option than Kuhn also.

Have watched a bunch of Benson over the past few years though. Much better player than the one the Bears cut. By all accounts a much better man also. Might have a year or two left in those legs. Hell, Mac's system might help him in that regard.

one of the reason's he struggled the first few years in the league is because he had celiac's disease that went undiagnosed. when he found out and went on the required gluten free diet, he seemed to be a much better player.

and yes he's grown up too.

I'm well aware of all that goes into Benson there guy! Many of the health issues he also had in college though. Truly feel he just needed to learn how to be a pro and by all accounts has done so. Dead issue for me at this point. There are off the field reasons why Benson NEEDS a check. Think we will see his best. Just don't love the fit, that's all.

Then again, looks as if Grant was looking for unreasonable numbers. Like Grant a good bit more in the fit but like Wells that's not a style I would shell crazy bank to either. TT was not in the wrong here IMO. just hope it works out.

Do you know that Grant was asking for too much money, or is that speculation? Just curious.. i'd much rather have Grant..

It seems to me Starks will be fighting for a spot on the team .. sure don't see him as a 3rd down type, or as a #3 back. We very well could wind up with A trio or Benson, Green, Saine, while Starks gets dealt or released. This is a Benson vs. Starks match .. loser leaves town style.

At first I read this post and dismissed you as ludicrous but I thought about it and you could very well be right. If we cut Starks you'd have to think we'd go high pick at runningback next year. Confused

Benson is going to come on the cheap for a host or reasons. No one is more upset about that sign than Grant's agent. Only team Grant could really expect bank from was Green Bay. Common sense would say he wanted starter money. That number is well above the league minimum that Benson's about to swallow.

9 times out of 10 I would say there is no way in hell I would cut ties with a player like Starks for a player like Saine. But this might just be the exception. Mac's system makes ya look at that thing a good bit differently.

Right...LOL

That's a much different take on Benson than I have though. Better pure runner than any on this Packers roster IMO. But I would give both Green and Saine a very clear lean as far as rec/3rd down skills go.

This mans thighs are bigger than my torso. No one can man this mans momentum stop on a dime. Awesome short yardage option. Indeed, I think this puts Starks 4th on the depth chart. He runs way too upright.

I'm hoping MM finally realized that he can be down pass rushers by running this horse into them. There isn't a 4-3 DE that wants to tackle Benson alone.

Hey now I don't like everyone from the state of Texas, just the guys with skills. Cool

I agree that Green and Saine would probably be better rec threats but I think Benson is a great blitz pick up back.

Man, if this goes through, I really like the signing. It'd be nice to have something more reliable back there. He could be a great closer for us in the 4th quarter.

Hey palmy, after the past couple of years and all that's gone down (or the lack thereof) with our running game, you still get heartburn over the Packers passing on Marshawn Lynch? Very Happy

Is this actually official? Or is it still just speculation?
