Well Gentleman! It seems like it has been forever since we last saw a GDT. I missed talking to you all on gamedays. A new year, some new faces, and many roster cuts yet to be made. Lets hope we start the preseason off right. Let's also hope for no injuries. Also I haven't transferred anything over from my old comp, so graphics will be a bit stale for the next few weeks.

I'm excited to see a lot of things. I'll list my top 5.

1. Our WRs

-See who has the best chance of making the team. According to our scrimmage depth chart if we keep 5 then it's Cone as of now, and if we keep 6 then it's Cone and Davis. Of course this is subject to change depending on performance and ST value. Also I wanna see our main 4 as well. Meier has supposedly impressed, Julio has been very impressive as well. Roddy is always impressive and Harry has his explosiveness back.

2. Asante Samuel

-I don't think any Falcons fan can say they aren't excited to see him play in a Falcons uni. He instantly brings depth, leadership, and a fiery mentality we were lacking on D. He also makes us not afraid to run nickel packages without getting burned. I think we use a 3 man rotation kind D on regular package plays with Grimes seeing the most snaps, then Samuel, then Robinson.

3. Draft Picks

-2 rookies have the chance to be "starters" and they are Peter Konz and Brady Ewing (our UW duo). I can see Ewing pretty much having it locked up. With our new style of offense we are looking for a versatile guy and he seems to be just that. However Cox is listed as our first team guy right now. Other rookies have a chance for play time or at least a chance to vie for playing time. I think Mitchell will add talent to our ST and could be our 3 S, but that looks to be Hope without Mitchell impressing. Holmes looks to be a project LT and shouldn't see too many opportunities to play this year without injury I do not believe. Massaquoi has a real chance I think. He is pretty much locked into a #5 DE role behind JA, Ray, Sid, and Kroy, but I think he could be a pass rushing specialist like Sid. On passing downs I wouldn't mind seeing Sid and Massaquoi at ends and Ray and a DT on the inside. Robertson seems to be depth or PS.

4. Our OL in general

-To say this is a weak point is an understatement at this point. At LT Baker has been average at times, but last season was bottom 3 in the league I would say. I hope Svitek gets a strong look, but even if Baker gets back to his 2010 form that would be an upgrade of what happened last season. McClure and Hawley are vying for the starting C position I think ultimately won by McClure, but Hawley has shown he is sufficient at C, just lackluster at RG (although he was better than Reynolds). At RG there is a big ?. Konz or Reynolds seem to be the favorites, but Johnson and Jackson I think are good as well. I would like to see Konz get the start if he looks ready in the preseason games. Clabo and Blalock are locked in at RT and LG respectively and are high quality OL starters.

5. Undrafted Free Agents

-This is their chance to impress coaches and make a serious case to make the roster or even PS. I like a lot of these guys but a few stick out for having a chance to make the roster.

Jerrell Harris- He has a good shot at cracking the roster. He could be our #6 LB but I also wouldn't be shocked if he moved up the ranks as the season goes along. Most LBs that come from Saban are NFL ready despite their playing time.

Michael Calvin- He seems to be a very athletic kid with size as well. I think it would be a shame for him not to make the roster but again he has to prove it in the preseason.

LaMark Brown- This kid has sky-high potential as a #2-3 receiving TE. He is a former WR so it only makes sense. He is big and fast for his size. He could pose potential matchup problems for teams.

Dominique Davis- I wouldn't say he has a great chance of making the roster, but I LOVED this guy in college. He can throw and is athletic to go along with it. I hope he gets his chance to make the roster whether it be this or next season.

James Rodgers- I think he has a chance of making the team for KR/PR purposes, however we have other capable guys as well. Right now I have him missing the 53 man roster, but barely. That being said if HD goes down, I wouldn't be surprised if he got playing time this year (not as HD's replacement, but just to get on the field and see what he could do in the slot).

Louis Nzegwu- He had the highest signing bonus of all of our UDFAs. I like him to be a PS lock and a very outside shot of making the roster.

Other guys I like to be at least on PS:
Tyler Horn
Phillpkeith Manley
Eric Folk

I seriously believe Jerrell Harris has a good shot at becoming the number 4 or 5 linebacker toward the end of the year if he can perform in the pre-season and prove he deserves a chance at some real playing time.

even though its pre-season, it's the first real football of the year. I enjoy that.

FINALLY it seems like eons since the last time we got to watch our birds

Obviously we'll all be anticipating

- Just how good our secondary will look with Samuel out there

- How good Konz will look and if Baker and Reynolds can bounce back

- To see how Dent performs as the #1 man in the middle

Some "less important" but equally interesting things I'm looking out for

- How will Quizz have progressed? Will he be as explosive in the screen game as we hope?

- Im interested in seeing Dominique Davis play Im started to get the feeling he'll beat out JPW and maybe even push Redman for #2

- Is Meier really developing to the extent the coaches are leading us to believe? Can he really develop into the next Finn?

- Who will start to separate themselves as the best #5 option? Seems like we're all picking favorites lately be it Cone, James Rodgers, or Davis very interested to see who proves themselves.

- How will Travian Robertson perform? Can he prove himself as the true NT we'll need in our 3-4 looks?

- Safety battle. Who can prove to be the most valuable backup? The familiar Schillinger? The pro-bowl vet Hope? Or the promising SEC rook Mitchell?

- Last but not least the return battle. Douglas on PR sounding like a lock. What about KR? Franks? Smith? Room for Rodgers or another rook?

Its a lot to think about Very Happy

Good stuff, finally some live to the forum.

What I predict: we don't reach any final conclusions (well, maybe will discover if 'x' player keeps sucking).

First game of the season. I just expect players to shake the rust off, get comfortable on the pitch and start anticipating what is coming. Finally some Falcons football and that's all I care about.

Yes, but at the same time this is make or break point for certain players. With a new staff there is no "oh, well this guy did well last year so we'll give him the 53rd roster spot". Either you go out there and get it done or not. I'm referring to guys like Schann, Chris Owens, JPW, Nance, Smith, Cone, Davis, etc. I really don't even care to an extent how our first team looks. I think we are fine there. I want to see our depth at certain positions and some surprise playmakers and stuff like that. Most of our starting positions are set and the ones that aren't I really anticipate watching (RG, C, FB) but I really want to see who can make an impact if injuries or something like that occur. That's what makes good quality teams.

I feel like we end up playing the Ravens every preseason. Is it just me or don't we seem to play them every year?

It would feel that way huh?

As for what to watch, it was said earlier. I'm looking for some guys to shake off the rust and get back into the swing of things. I don't see any spots necessarily being lost tomorrow. I'm waiting for the 2nd and 3rd game to check out who should really be out there.

Outside of the offensive line and fullback, we all know what to expect. I'm very intrigued to see how well Konz adjusts to the NFL in his first ever NFL game (Whether he starts or not). It was also mentioned that there is a three way battle for that 5th WR spot. Personally, that's what I'm most excited for.

As for the D, I think we all want to see what's going on with Dent. The coaching staff has been saying how good he has been in training camp, but what do you expect? Also, obviously, Asante Samuel. We finally get a first look at what he does for our D. He gives us arguably the best three-headed monster at CB. I'll be looking for Ray Edwards out there too. Praying that he can get some pressure on the QBs this season.

Anyway, I crazy excited to finally see the Dirtybirds back out on the field. (Also excited for this forum to get more lively). HOPEFULLY THIS IS THE YEAR!

I wouldn't say we lacked it because we had Spoon and Peterson, but maybe some sort of cocky attitude. Either or, we needed him and I can't freaking wait!!!

I gotcha dude. I will be watching. At least the first 2-3 quarters, but I will probably get the game recorded or saved somehow so I can watch it in it's entirety. I'll probably just do a write up of everything I see from the game just for my purposes and I'll post it on here.

OK guys... Time to place your bets on first score and final score.

Ill say first score is Matt to Julio on a 28 yard TD.

Final will be 20-17 Atlanta
