| Quote: | Multiple reporters have tweeted details of what the NBA’s new policy on flopping will look like.
From Howard Beck of the New York Times:
One note from ref camp: NBA is close to finalizing policy on flopping. Will not carry in-game penalty. Will be reviewed after. Poss fine.—
Howard Beck (@HowardBeckNYT) September 27, 2012
Orlando Magic play-by-play announcer David Steele translates:
New "flopping"rules in NBA. Game refs won't make these calls. League will review tape & notify offending floppers next day.#nbameetings.—
David Steele (@SteeleMagic) September 27, 2012
Assuming this is true, it’s an interesting approach. Because while it’s all fine and good to fine someone after the fact, what if the flop causes a team to lose a possession and thus a chance to tie or win the game? We’ll see if the threat of a fine serves as enough of a deterrent. |

| Quote: | In a report by by Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the NBA is close to finalizing a new rule that will result in having some consequences for flopping. Some players in the league have even admitted to having flopping in their skill set.
The caveat in this flopping policy is that fines will only be handed out after the game. That means you can flop all you want during the game and will not be assessed a technical foul or ejected. A bill will just arrive at your address after committing the classless act. The league spokesman even released a statement regarding that the flopping rule will be a post-game type of of infraction.

Where does the money go to? Charity? Or does the NBA add money to it's pocket? _________________

I think the super stars will get fined for it. I think they get the calls because the refs on the floor give it to them because of the situation of the game and the present of the athlete. The flop rule will be a review offense. So the person reviewing the flop has no connection to the outcome or the performance of the so call super star. I think it can work. Its be really hard for an on the court ref to call it beause of the speed of the game.

The only way it'll make a difference is if it's a very hefty fine. _________________

Or if after X amount of fines, you get a suspension, like with techs. Replays will always show if it's a flop or not, they'll be easy to spot. When players' fines start adding up, they'll stop eventually.
This is definitely the right way of handling this. They tried some years ago to let refs handle it. They were strict for the 1st few weeks, and many applauded. It went away and flopping was back. _________________ Equal Opportunity Hater

Do you get fined per flop or just for the game?
Mario Chalmers at least twice a quarter...
I think it should be an egregious flop to hand fines. _________________

Pretty much. It all comes down to how it is enforced. This is a good start, but won't matter if it goes the way it has gone in the past when they tried to crack down. _________________ Equal Opportunity Hater

Interesting, but I never thought flopping was that serious of a problem to begin with. _________________

| Instead of giving a penalty to the players, why not just go change the rules back to the old school physical style of play. Players can flop all they want because the league is soft. |

Old school = devastating injuries.
I'd rather see my favorite player play for many years instead of succumbing to injuries that could have easily been prevented. _________________
