He was one Jessie Holley block from breaking a huge TD run. | Interesting.
If Vereen keeps this up, the Pats might be able to carry just 3 halfbacks [and 1 fullback] and keep 6 receivers [not counting Slater]. |
Danny Woodhead getting cut in your scenario? | He'd be the odd man out, yes. Vereen would make him expendable.
I'm sure all those short white kids who bought Woodhead jerseys in 2010 would be heartbroken, but it would benefit the team. _________________

Back from the bar.
The good:
*Chandler Jones is so violent and powerful with his hands, he just flails at offensive tackles and drives them backwards. Bright future for this guy.
*Hightower and Wilson also had solid debuts.
*Cunningham didn't disappoint. Looks like a different player athletically. Looked fast off the edge rushing from a two-point stance and lined up inside as well.
*The running backs all played well. Vereen was the best, but Bolden got on the field before him. Nice to see we're 3 deep with legitimately talented running backs right now.
*Marcus Harrison had a couple of real nice plays. Forced a fumble, almost wrestled away an interception too.
The bad:
*Fletcher's knee injury is really disappointing. I was hoping to see a big year from him.
*The O-line was terribad. No bright spots from this observer.
*I hate judging secondary players during preseason games, but Arrington and Moore looked awful. At least McCourty didn't get torched.
*Didn't see anything to suggest one of the young DT guys (Love, Deaderick, Pryor, Brace) is gonna step up this year. We need that help.
*Justin Francis looks like this years beneficiary of the random UDFA hype machine. _________________

Doubt he even makes the practice squad though the Pats total lack of depth at DT could give him a chance. |
I think he could squeak on the PS.
He is super quick off the snap though. Super quick. _________________

Last year Brandon Bolden...this year Zach Sudfeld! |

I thought Bolden looked incredibly slow, wasn't that impressed with him. I know the oline was blocking horribly but still. _________________

He was solid actually.

Edit: on NFL.com he is listed at 6-1, 210 pounds... he gotten bigger, he was drafted at 198 pounds.
Hopefully it doesn't take from his speed and keeps him healthier. |

Dowling looked good.
I wouldn't say Moore looked awful other than on that pass interference penalty. He looked like a #3 or #4 CB. |

Proyr and Brance didn't play... and i thought Love was pretty solid. |
Eh, looked like the same player he did last year to me, which isn't taking a step forward. Solid but got gashed once and wasn't really distruptive either. Deaderick was very bad at defensive tackle. Not a welcome development... _________________

He had one nice run but that was it. Neither he nor Francis did much to convince me they will make the team. |

Deaderick is woefully miscast as anything other than a 5-technique. Which is why I doubt he makes the roster if some combination of Brace, Pryor and Fanene gets healthy. Marcus Harrison and Gerard Warren might even beat him out (though I expect both to get cut) |

If nothing else, this game made the depth chart clear at defensive end. Jones, Ninkovich, Cunningham are the top dogs right now (with Fanene not playing at least). _________________

Woodhead is a proven vet and embarrassingly cheap.
I'd be very surprised if we see Woodhead anywhere but the Patriots roster this season. _________________

I much rather have Woodhead than Bolden. _________________
