Vikings claimed G/C Mark Asper off waivers from the Bills.
| Quote: | | The No. 178 pick of the 2012 draft, the 6-foot-6, 319-pound Asper was called "as big as a house" by Bills GM Buddy Nix. He's looking to make the transition from tackle to the interior. |
Vikings waived CB Zackary Bowman and OT Patrick Brown. _________________

Based on the roster as it is now, my only real concern is that we really don't have a good backup OT. Schwartz can play RT, and Asper has experience there but he is a rookie. If Kalil goes down we are going to be in some serious hurt.
Also, if Ponder goes down and we have to roll with Webb/MBT, that could get ugly. _________________

| Charlie Johnson will probably still be the top backup LT, with Schwartz taking his spot. Would be my guess, i agree though, the lack of OT depth is concerning but im sure MN has something planned. |

Why are we keeping 3 QBs?
If Ponder and Webb go down, the season is over anyways. Heck, if one goes down, the other finishes the game, and we sign Rosenfels back or sign Chris Redman (If he's still available?)
I'd rather just keep 2 QBs. _________________

I generally agree, 2 QBs on the active roster and 1 on the PS really are all that are needed. However, they must really like MBT. |

For the record, did we just waive/IR both Demarcus Love and Pat Brown. Who the hell is backing up Kalil/Loadholt?
Can't be CJ, how can you have a starter backing up another position? _________________

Its easy. Kalil goes down, Johnson slide in at LT and Schwartz replaces Johnson at LG. I think Schwartz can backup Loadholt. I do agree that MN needs more depth, but I think Brown was more of a RT anyway and I am not sure what Love really brought to the team. I am sure MN will pickup somebody, but hopefully, nobody goes down. |

i thought Asper was a tackle. but then, i guess he's an unproven rookie.
EDIT: he's listed as a guard AND tackle.
A three-year starter on the offensive and defensive lines in high school, Asper continued to build on his versatility at Oregon. After seeing time at right tackle as a freshman, he moved to right guard in 2008 and 2009. The coaching staff kicked Asper back outside in 2010, starting him in 11 of 12 games at right tackle. As a senior, he was back at guard for 13 games with one start at right tackle. Asper is an interesting kid in general. Extremely strong, he was a member of the Oregon Iron Club, totaling 1,137 pounds in clean, squat and bench during winter testing in 2010. He's also married with two daughters. But it's his versatility with the ability to back up multiple positions along the offensive line that will earn him a strong shot at earning a roster spot in the NFL.

| Asper is 6-6, so he could be in the mold of Schwartz, with the ability to play OG and OT. However, i have seen him listed as a Center and that is awfully tall for a C. |

Mark Asper
Univ of Oregon
HT: 6'6½"
WT: 322 lbs.
40 Time: 5.35
Biography: Three-year starter who's been used at both right tackle and right guard.
Positives: Large, strong who is blocker best in a small area. Immediately gets his hands into defenders, stays square and works blocks hard. Jolts opponents with good punch, keeps the defender in front of him and seals opponents from the action. Large enough to block down on opponents or remove them from the action with his frame. Keeps his feet moving throughout the action and keeps his head on a swivel.
Negatives: Ducks his head and overextends into blocks. Rumbles around the field and is ineffective in motion. Lacks footwork sliding out off the edge and has limited lateral blocking range.
Analysis: Asper was a solid college lineman but has limited upside in the NFL. The ability to play several positions on the offensive line helps his cause to make a roster as an inexpensive utility lineman.

Asper is a rookie, but he isn’t that young – he is 27 years old, is married and has two children. He took a two-year Mormon mission to Spain after high school and redshirted in 2007 before becoming a full-time starter in 2009.

| MN basically have three backup interior lineman an no true backup OT. I cant imagine that this will be the case for long, usually 4 backup Olineman is ideal. Or perhaps bringing in Asper is a sign that there isnt much faith in Schwartz being healthy, they are very similar players it would appear. |

This would be my guess on the current Oline depth chart, behind the starting 5, you could say the second team Oline:
LT Charlie Johnson
LG Geoff Schwartz
C Joe Berger
RG Geoff Schwartz
RT Geoff Schwartz or Mark Asper |
