Off the top of my head, there would be 3 natural possibilities:
Player/Cap Savings/Cap Hit This Year/Next Year
David Terrell/925k/1625k/0k
R W McQuarters/3050k/1000k/1000k
Rex Tucker/1900k/790k/2370k
Looking at this, only RW looks like a cut because he would save more than he would cost (net). So I look for Terrell and Tucker to be here. Another guy who could be cut for a few bucks:
Alphonso Boone/1000k/100k/100k
I doubt to see him cut to save $1M. SO I expect if an cut is made, it will be RW, especially with Tillman and Vasher looking like starters. Azumah is good, but he's really more of a nickel back. |

I got ya on the all the other picks, but I see Terrell staying. He isn't he most expensive of players and he is definitely better than Wade or Gage. Despite the fact that he is a nuisance, Terrell still gives that chance of breaking out. He would be an excellent no. 3 receiver once he starts to mature. Tucker and r-dub though I would be surprised to see back. |

The biggest problem for the Bears now is roster spots, not necessarily cap space. Cap space is always a factor, but you can't field a roster with that many WR's, especially if they are going to add another one or two from the draft. That would be: (Muhammad, Terrell, Wade, Gage, Berrian, and 1-2 draft picks). Someone will have to be cut or released.
I agree that McQuarters will be gone. He has played good, but has also never played great except for maybe one or two games. The most INTs he has had in one season is 3 - the same amount as Urlacher. I think if the Bears get a good WR, they can use another pick on CB. |

I think it has to be R.W. 3 million is alot to pay for nickle back/punt returner.I think Tucker returns for the simple fact that we desperatly need quality offensive lineman. |

I love tucker's physical style of play, but he is just too much of an injury risk at this point. Personally, I would cut Wade. He is fast and sure handed but there are alot of guys you can find similar or better than him in the draft and he is only 5'10. |

Ok 1 down 2 to go. With tucker and r-dub gone we would free up 5 million according to 670. |

Understanding is that both Tucker & McQuarters are being talked to about restructuring their Contracts to keep them around.
If the Bears can shave another $2 mil or so off those cap numbers for this year, then they'd prefer to keep them both around. Both players are good citizens (and don't underestimate that factor with the Bears) & if they can free up say $2.5 to $3 mil in cap space, well, it's time for a FA TE or OLB.
We'll know within a very short time if they stay or go. _________________ Most People Prefer Tactics, I Prefer Logistics. |

Just a thought, but... how about going after GB's 'transitional' player. Sure we give up some draft picks, but a soft pair of hands in the red zone, who can block for a HB....
come on.
He, and Muhsin, and TJ. A dangerous trio, no?
Just a thought. |
