How you gonna disrespect that track with that Skinemax garbage? I could tell from his opening adlibs it was gonna be trash and it only got worse. SMH |
AAAAAAgreed. I mean how many songs are there using the exact same words he used. Seriously, are rappers running out of things to say? The only good thing about this song is the beat, which obviously wasn't Freddie Gibbs's. Even his stuff with Madlib I find to be shallow, and while his voice is really good and he can stay on beat, there is nothing that jumps out at me as a "good song." _________________

There's a stream for The Heist from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. |

What's the general consensus on Macklemore here? |
Good. I don't think anyone hates him really. Everyone here has either said good things about him or bit their tongue _________________

I like Macklemore a lot. Not a great lyricist or anything, but he makes good music and Ryan Lewis is awesome. _________________

Cheesehead430, it isn't about living in the past. It's about not disrespecting a hip hop classic by rhyming about T&A like some garbage Poison Clan track. Don't do it over "I Used To Love H.E.R." or "They Reminisce Over You" or "My Philosophy" or any number of songs that mean so much to so many ppl. Spit that wack mess over some stripper anthem. _________________

This isnt a T&A track, its a track about how women have done him wrong in the past and how hes responded to it...
And lol for quoting and siding with a dude who thinks 4,5,6 is better than Illmatic. _________________ Go Pack Go... |

Wow, The Heist did not disappoint.
I remember first hearing about Mack in AT's top albums of the year thread. Loved his music ever since.
This is one of the best albums of the year IMO. Need to give it a few more listens though. _________________

Yeah but dude look at what he is rhyming, "Time...Mine...Rhyme...Time" and Bomb and Islam has been used like a million times as well. The reason he sounds good, iin my opinion, is because his voice is incredibly rhythmic and he has a good enough flow. But look at his rhyme schemes. So simple. If he's gonna release a song on a mixtape using one of the most cherished and revered beats, he had better bring his A game. He told a nice enough story but that was basically him talking. Freddie Gibbs one of the best rappers in the game right now. He may not rap about the "reel hip hop topics bro" on boom bap beats but he his talent is very exciting. Especially since he's so outspoken about labels and will never sign to a major.

Ahhh Captain Condescending and Criticizer of Boom Bap. LoL. Who gives a crap about his label situation. Anyone with half a brain realizes that corporate labels are not a must nowadays.
I don't care about the metaphor of the song. He took a beloved west coast anthem and went vulgar and obscene over it. Congratulations Frederick. Go ruin another classic. _________________

First of all, no. Regardless of any metaphors, my beef was with lacing a classic with nonstop vulgarity like its a Poison Clan track. Just bcuz you pour syrup on it don't make it pancakes.
2nd of all, he and I agreed on this issue. I already handled that debate and other than the unresolved claim about Pete Rock's "exclusive production" of Doe or Die, it was resolved as a subjective difference of opinion. I certainly don't hold it against you that you like this garbage. _________________

Yeah I was wrong about who produced Doe or Die, as I said that Pete Rock did the entire thing. Incorrect. he only did two songs. But I stand by my statement about not only Kool G being the superior rapper, but 4,5,6 being the better album. Go ahead and criticize away, but I for one would like some well thought out rhymes not middle school ,one syllable words. _________________

I'm a fan. I don't like many new artists but he's demonstrated a genuine kind of sensibility. That track, "Wings" I think it's called, about buying Jordans is really dope, as is "The Town." _________________
