Looking back at this trade. and honestly, the Falcons screwed the pooch with it IMO...
They traded:
2nd round pick (#34 overall) - WR Devin Thomas
2nd round pick (#48 overall) - TE Fred Davis
4th round pick (#103 overall) - whole bunch of nothing picks traded for it.
They got:
1st round pick (#21 overall) - OL Sam Baker
3rd round pick (#84 overall) - WR Harry Douglas
5th round pick (#154 overall) - DE Kroy Biermann
But let's look at who the Falcons could have gotten:
2 - 34 - WR Jordy Nelson
2 - 48 - DL Calais Campbell
4 - 103 - OT Anthony Collins
Just saying... _________________

It is a good point but the whole argument about Nelson, Campbell, and Collins is all based on what we know now about them so i dont think that would been our picks but i think if we didnt trade we would hav been better off because so far Baker has been a disappointment 2 say the least n thats y we traded up. _________________

In 2000 the Falcons could have drafted Tom Brady... _________________

funny thing is... the names I put in, were put in the day after the draft and saved on a spreadsheet from 2008... _________________

I still think HD and kroy were great picks, we just should have drafted a different person to be our franchise LT
someone with longer arms, someone not a product of their system, someone not so injury prone.. someone like Duane Brown _________________ formerly MadAtFalcons |

Yeah the kroy and Hd pick wasnt bad picks. If we could have gotten a better lt at that pick it wouldnt be a bad draft |

definitely wouldnt have done it. Baker is bad. Biermann has shown to be nothing special, and HD is good, but he isnt elite, and his skill set could have been found in many other drafts. _________________

no, not at all.
yea, we did need a LT at the time. I understand why we made the trade. However, I never was a Baker fan to begin with. I didn't think HE was worth the 1st round pick. _________________

"The road to hell is paved of good intentions"
Was it a mistake? Yes, but it was the right thing to do in 2008. We just drafted our 'franchise' QB and we had a huge whole at the LT position. Tackles were running of the board like hot bread and moving up was theoretically the right thing to do. We couldn't leave that draft without an LT to protect Ryan. Baker was the best one available.
It didn't work well and of course I wouldn't repeat the trade, but there should be no regret about it. It's like when your corporation has a negative month albeit you did everything right within what the economy books say, you just assume costs and move on. _________________

Jammal Anderson was a bigger bust than any pick we have had thus far. Look how far back that pick put our Defensive Line. And look at all the guys we could have picked. Willis, Revis etc... _________________

that selection still gives me chills.
going after a converted TE that pretty much just started playing DE.. and taking him in the top 10? we are better than that... _________________

Hindsight is 20/20. I dont care if thats who you wanted to draft, you can only say theyre better because you know how they turned out |

Campbell didnt fit our 4-3 scheme so theres no way we wouldve drafted him. Yes I wouldve done the trade, but I wouldve drafted Duane Brown of the Texans instead. _________________
