| turtle28 wrote: | I just heard an update from Grant Paulsen at 8:25 on my way to work:
1. Alfred Morris is really looking good and he is a player to watch out for in preseason
2. Chris Cookey isn't getting much separation (but he never has) he still has the best hands on the team though and makes the toughest catches. He is also a better blocker than Fred Davis and Niles Paul. Grant also said he thinks Logan Paulsen will make the team because we need a big blocking TE. He said they are going to be worried about Nikes Paul being on the end of the line and asked to block DE's
3. He said of all the young offensive Lineman than my name sake Adam Gettis has looked the best (I did predict that) mainly because of his perfect size for the Zbs and he played in the Zbs at Iowa
4. He said that with the wr position he sees us keeping 6. He said there are 4 locks:
Garçon
Hankerson
Moss
Morgan
The 5th is a competition between Armstrong, Austin, Briscoe and Robinson. In this group he said that Armstrong and Austin are playing the best. He said Briscoe is way behind in the playobook and has a lot of work to do. He didn't say anything about Robinson but I can tell you I watched Redskins nation and I saw him drop a TD pass in a drill with no one covering him. It's really not looking good for Robinson.
The 6th spot at WR will be a special teams/return spot. Grant said that Brandon Banks has surprised and had a great camp! He's looked good on returns, explosive and he has looked good on offense as well.
Right now id say Armstrong and Banks are your #5 and 6 wrs |
Man thanks again for the gangster updates!!!! You are my NFL network!! I have read the same thing about Banks...He looks great in camp this year. Makes me wonder if his knee was worse last year than he said! I am also comming around on Armstrong. More worries about him is getting off the line when bumped....His hands and speed were never in question. Should be very interesting to see how it plays out.... |

| Quote: | | Option offense on full display for Redskins with RG3 at the helm: |
The shanahans are trying to take advantage of teams that don’t practice against the option offense. They also think opposing defenses won’t be as good against it as our defense is because our defense has been working on it all spring and summer.
Also, it should come as a shock to no one that Shanaham will use the keeper game alot. The keeper is a staple of the Shanahan offenses, but now it is working better in years past becsuse of Griffin. Our scheme shows Griffin’s speed and running ability. The redskins defense has also learned how to better defend the option as keeper game wcause of having to defend Griffin all offseason.
| Quote: | After a full offseason with Griffin quarterbacking, defenders expect him to frequently keep the ball and try to escape the pocket. At the very least, they have to respect that. That knowledge has resulted in some busted plays because the backside defenders know to stay home and contain Griffin.
“It’s going be really hard for other teams and guys who aren’t used to it,” defensive end Adam Carriker said. “The first day, I was all over the place. Now I’m getting used to it a little bit. I can kind of get a feel for it because of what the O-line does. I can feel if it is a boot or if it is a run based on how he’s blocking me. Guys who aren’t used to that, and they’re trying to read the quarterback? Good luck.” | sounds good, but I hope they don't use the option too much Because we need Griffin healthy. I also hope he learns to slide. I've heard we have another Jason Campbell. (a qb who doesn't know how to slide)
From espn 980:
1. they interviewed Evan Royster today and he said he and Helu have worked a lot of pass protection this offseason. They both know that's is the area they needed to improve upon most. He said anyone can win the job and they are all 3interchangeable. They said that he is looking like the best blocker on the team because he has the size to block blitzing linebackers and has been doing so.
2. Trent Williams is looking like a beast. He apparently is shutting down all the OLb's that are rushing the past few days. Orakpo, Jackson and Markus white. He is really focused and in great shape, if he focuses on his technique many believe he can play like a pro bowler.
3. They interviewed Alfred Morris and it was the best interview! He's was a great young man. HE was originally going to West Virginia university but it just didn't work out. So, he ended up at Florida Atlantic. He said he was recruited played as a Lb but they thought he would have a better chance making the pros at RB and FB because of his height. He talked about Howard Shnelenberger and how he was a great coach. People really think he is having a great camp. Kinda sounds like people are talking about him in the way that they talked about Royster last year.
4. Kirk Cousins did a perfect Mike Shanahan impression last night for a rookie event they had. as for his play, he's looked like a rookie more than Griffin people are saying. He will have a good play, then a few bad ones. Right now, he's definitely 3rd on the depth chart.
5. They talked about Cedric Griffin and apparently he doing nothing spectacular. He has not locked down a spot on this team and is one of 5 players that needs to play better in reporters eyes of he wants to make the team, especially given his age vs the other CBs.
6. Maurice Hurt has looked better at LG this year than last, so that is a good thing.
7. Perry Riley had a good interview, he is definitely showing signs of improvement from last year. He said that of he had to, he would feel comfortable taking over for Fletcher and be the signal caller for the defense. Riley also said if he doesn't make the pro bowl, he will be disappointed in himself.

• Darrel Young is expected to miss up to two weeks with a strained left hamstring. “Just running a [pass] route, it stiffened up on me,” Young said.
• Josh Morgan is day to day with a strained hamstring. He missed Tuesday afternoon’s practice.
Damn... Hamstrings again! Ughhh

In reading these practice notes it's nice to see that in today's practice Aldrick Robinson bounced back and had a strong day. Maybe I just caught him in a bad video last night with him dropping the td pass. It sounds like Moss and Hall are having a good battle. One play Hall made a great play on an int of Griffin in the redzone, but Griffin and Moss got him back with a 60 yd td catch _________________

Trent is maturing. Watch for him to.be a top 5 LT this year.
| Quote: | | Trent Williams is having a great camp. Teammates talk about how much more professional he is studying tapes and working. His conditioning also is good. Williams has the talent to be one of the best left tackles in the NFC. RG3 can make the line look good by scrambling away from sacks, but the line needs to come together with consistent run-blocking for the offense to be successful |

Notes
| Quote: | Chris Baker:
Baker has worked at left end, nose tackle and nickel. Heck, maybe he’s worked at right end too and I haven’t seen it. Regarldess, he’s showing that he can play end or tackle. Baker tends to jump a little early at times. He also was too upright on a stunt, preventing him from having much power or explosion when he came around to his left. My guy Chris Baker powered into him(Gettis) and moved him back. Baker continues to beat the young linemen; curious to see how he’ll fare when facing starter types. That’s always the key. [via WaExaminer]
Redskins- @Redskins Shanahan says DL Chris Baker has lost 30 pounds and has huge upside. Can play NT or DE. #skinscamp
John Keim - @john_keim NT Chris baker is in the backfield quite a bit this camp beats 2nd teamers, but still. More active than neild thus far. #redskins |
| Quote: | Richard Crawford:
Grant Paulsen - @granthpaulsen Rookie CB Richard Crawford says Santana Moss has coached him up with helpful pointers about tweaks he could make to his game.
Rookie defensive back Richard Crawford picked off a deflected Cousins pass in the end zone for the seventh-round pick’s second INT of camp. [via Frericksburg.com]
The rookie-on-rookie crime continued two plays later, as rookie defensive back Richard Crawford picked off a pass in the flats and returned it back to the crowd of onlooking players. |
2 INTs for.Crawford
| Quote: | Trent Williams:
Trent Williams is having a great camp. Teammates talk about how much more professional he is studying tapes and working. His conditioning also is good. Williams has the talent to be one of the best left tackles in the NFC. RG3 can make the line look good by scrambling away from sacks, but the line needs to come together with consistent run-blocking for the offense to be successful. [via ESPN]
And then there’s Williams. Wrote about him in Tuesday’s report, but I can’t help it. He’s been fun to watch in these drills. He’s patient and if a guy gets into his pads, he swallows them up. At worst he had draws today vs. Brian Orakpo and a draw for an offensive lineman is a win. [via Washington Examiner]
Rich Tandler: @Rich_Tandler A couple of non-RG3 practice notes: In 1-on-1 blocking Wilson tried to go through Williams to get to QB. Bad idea, hit a brick wall. |
| Quote: | Josh LeRibeus:
At some point during Monday’s practice, the Redskins rookie realized that he belongs, that he can block NFL linemen and linebackers. "You’re like, these guys are so [good], there’s no way you could ever get there," LeRibeus said Wednesday. "But then you get in there, and it’s, ‘Oh, I can do this.’ That starts to build your confidence." The Redskins selected LeRibeus in the third round of April’s in the hopes the SMU could product could serve as a backup guard/center this season and eventually develop into a starter. The uncertainty surrounding left guard Kory Lichtensteiger, however, has accelerated the schedule for LeRibeus. "It’s night and day," LeRibeus said of his comfort level. "I remember that first time I went out there, I was all over the place. It’s gotten a lot better." |

Very unprofessional...

But expected...
