He can dedicate his play in the game to his mother, and play with more adrenaline than normal. that could result in a fantastic game for him, or a dud. We'll just have to see.
I had a hockey game a couple days after my grandfather died. I just wanted to get out there on the ice and hit someone. Like one of the posters above stated, sometimes it's good to get back into normalcy, rather than feeling sorry for yourself (that you'll never see that loved one again).
I played well. Hit everything in sight (yet did not take a penalty), and I scored a goal and got an assist. A LOT better than my average (typical) game.
If I had to bet on it, I'd guess that more mourners play well than poorly when they are trying to "hide from their grief". Let's hope that's the case with Griffin, as he'll be needed on Sunday to beat the messy but ever-dangerous Redskins. _________________

It turned out that Everson played fairly well. Not outstanding, but well enough. He was not the weak link in the chain. Although, the defence, as a whole, didn't have the adrenaline high they played with in Games 4 and 5. _________________

Griffen: "I'm doing all right. I'm just staying strong. I have a family, a fiancee, a kid on the way. So I've got to stay strong for them. My mom was the biggest Vikings fan. Favorite color was purple and everything. She would have wanted me to play. My mom was the strongest person. She raised me and my brother. She was my role model. She taught me a lot. It was hard to see her go, but I know she's in a better place right now. Everything I do is for her and my family. It's like this is my family, too. Just having these boys on my side makes a world of difference."

A couple of interesting facts....
1. Our backup defensive end everson griffin has more sacks than ray Edwards..
2. In 2012 ray Edwards has sacked as many NFL quarterbacks as I have.
3. Through 22 games in Atlanta Edwards has 3.5 sacks..
What a great decision it was to not overpay him. I always thought he was overrated. Love what Robison does for the team. Doesn't get any stupid penalties like Edwards did and pruduces more. |

I don't even think he was overrated. I feel like most of us knew he was a run stopping specialist with the occasional pass rushing burst. Those who wanted him to be re-signed were probably just concerned about losing a member of a defensive line that had mighty success, thus potentially creating an unnecessary chemistry issue.
Griffen is a keeper, for sure. _________________

He got a paycheck because of that playoff game with Dallas. It's the only time he showed up. |

Frazier: "He's come so far. I talk to him about it often -- just seeing the maturation, even through this last offseason, being able to manage his free time, understanding what it means to become a pro and act like a pro. He's one of those guys who has really bought into the right way of doing things."

Probably a stupid question at this point, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. If Brinkley is to depart, would Vikings fans be in favor of Griffen moving to WLB as Henderson slides inside? _________________

not a stupid question at all. if you look at the first post of this thread and early conversations you'll see that's what the Vikings were intending, or at least trying, with him in July and August.
but they decided he's a better fit at end. but if you saw last week's game, you'll see him drop back in to coverage on a blitz play and pick off the ball perfectly. _________________

Griffen is fun to watch.
Even if he's best suited to playing a backup role as a pass rusher specialist, he still brings so much to the table.
I wish we had more versatile players like him. _________________

I'd like to thank the Detroit Lions for Everson Griffen. _________________

Frazier said Griffen has been "a pillar of strength" and was incredibly receptive throughout the offseason in listening to directives on how to study, practice and play like a pro.

It was.
Detroit got our 30th pick in the draft, and we got the 2nd pick in the 2nd round, and (I think) first pick in the 4th round.
Bam! Lions get Best, we get Cook and Griffen. _________________
