So I wanted to look at the players selected 1992-2012 at #17 and there has been only 1 All Pro which was Steve Hutchinson. The rest have been serviceable players, average or below average.

The Steelers also took Charles Johnson @ #17 in 1994. OUCH! Coincidentally Dewayne Washington went #18.

Anyway without getting to much in detail of who was taken. I'll give a breakdown of all the positions selected.

QB 1
RB 1
WR 2
OG 3
OC 1
OT 1
DE 2
ILB 5
CB 4
ST 1

So if I was a betting man I'd say the Steelers will be selecting a ILB, CB, OG or WR with the #17 overall pick. But recent history shows that the chances are slim when selecting a All Pro/Pro Bowl player at that position.

Players that can currently be available at those position.

ILB - Te'o, Minter, Olgetree
CB - Rhodes, Banks, Trufant
OG - Cooper, Warmack
WR - Hopkins, Patterson, Hunter, Allen

Those are the only guys I'd want that you listed. I want nothing to do with Te'o or Olgetree, to me, Banks is at risk of falling out of the 1st round entirely. Rhodes, while I like him, I think 17 might be a bit high for him.

How would you rank those players?

Poor logic basing who we will draft off previous in this way. Especially in the case of a CB.

Warmack
Minter
Hunter
Patterson
Trufant
Hopkins
Rhodes.

As far as the others, T'eo would be theblast on the list. Banks before rhodes Ogletree before Te'o, Allen before the two OL. I simply bolded the ones I personally like the most.

It's a message board not a magic 8 ball! LOL!

This isn't serious, just fun. Does everything have to be scientific around here?

Perhaps if you had made the point of the post more obvious.

I shall proceed to disregard it.

I agree actually and 1992 -2002 has little relation to todays game and draft.
I would stick to the last 10 years at the most. There are so many variables and to suggest a position is more likely than another would be unlikely.

What may be more relative is the fact that 1 pro bowler was selected at this point in the draft over that span.

Honestly though, the more I consider It, I might have to put Minter above Warmack, because I feel like, we shouldn't draft an interior lineman if we can nab a quality LB. I really do believe Hunter is the best WR of the best, but that injury damaged his stock. I think if it weren't for that, people might be talking about him going top 15-20.

Minter, Trufant and Hopkins are not worth the 17 pick at all.

I like both Minter and Hopkins, but if we take them first it better be after we traded down.

To #24 as it has 10 players that have made the All Pro team from 1992-2012

Or

Trade up to #11 which has 10 also

#18 has 9 All pro selections

I agree with you, I'm just saying, in terms of how I think they'd help our team, that's possibly how I'd rank them. I'd LOVE to see us draft Justin Hunter. 6'5 and full of beast mode.
