I'm just curious to see what others feel about Marte. Has Pittsburgh finally found a gem with Marte?

In under 125 AB this year he's hitting .325 with 13 extra base hits (6 2B, 2 3B, and 5 HR) with 16 RBI and 10 SB so far, plus his OPS is over .900 thus far. He's hitting over 300 against righties in almost 100 AB as well.

Marte's come along quite well thus far in his pro career. He struggled badly against pitches in all 4 corner last year, but he's only struggle this year have been laying off anything in the dirty (that is down the middle) or fastballs high and away. Not only that, but his WAR is highly than McCutchen and Russell Martin so far; and that's a huge deal if his WAR is already higher than Martin(just look at the Pirates massive catcher issues over recent years).

He's got elite speed and an incredible arm and some are already calling him for to move to CF and move McCutchen to move to LF in the near future. His major downfall has been his discipline at the plate but he's got the ability (and thus far, stats) or a five-tool player.

What does Pittsburgh have with Marte? Is he the real deal moving forward? Or just a fluke? Or has he met his potential?

He's a very good player. Not sure if he's THIS good, but he's a keeper.

He wont keep it up. He's sustaining a .398 BABip right now. He's still a decent player, though, and a good defender to boot.

.270/.320/.440 with + defense in LF. Probably a 3-4 win player IMO.

I don't expect him to keep up at .325 all year, but I don't see it impossible for him to float around .300 come the end of the season. His speed alone steals base hits off ground balls. He nearly pulled one off today, but he slowed down as he ducked from being hit by a bad throw... Laughing

His average is inflated, but I think his performance so far is pretty legit.

He's capable of hitting 15+ HR, swiping 30 bags, getting on base, and playing quality defense. Looks like a star right now.

I think he's a Nick Markakis with better speed and defense. Or what Markakis was earlier in his career. That would equate to around a 4-5 win player.

Good player. He'd have a lot more value if he played CF.
