I've done been bugged enough to start posing in here Razz but I do find it a little hard to get started. The main thing really is that it is hard when there isn't a lot of light discussion going on to get into. Almost everything chargers related on here is very very in depth and I don't want to say anything and then just sound like an idiot if that makes sense. But I'm willing to give it a good go around.

Yeah the other problem is that we dont have any outrageous charger fans on here. Basically one person says something, everyone else agrees and thats the end of it, we have few, but really good posters here, and nobody debates anything because we all agree for the most part....lol

I mean, we did have a radical fan once but he never posted in the Chargers forum and we turned a blind eye to him. Laughing

Maybe we as fans have PTSD from the Norv Era. LBC mentioned the players having it, maybe we as fans have been kicked too many times.

Suggestions:

1 ) A game day thread
Talk about the upcoming game.
Give people a place to share thoughts in the week leading up to the game, during the game, too.
Not everybody is at a bar or a party.
Sure, the participation is going to be low at first.
But, if you don't start one, you'll never have a good one.
Pose some questions in it. Jostle people into expressing their opinions.
I expect to see one before Sunday. Better late than never.

2 ) An AFC West thread
It invites outsiders to come into the forum and propose other points of view.

3 ) A fantasy thread
Almost everybody plays.
It doesn't have to be a forum league, either.
People love to talk about their team.

4 ) Road trips
Visit other forums, particularly the next week's opponent.
You give them a play, they'll give you a play.
It also makes for some interesting chatter.
Nothing galvanizes a "society" like "going to war" once in a while.
Nobody from the Chargers forum has posted in the Eagles GDT yet and it is Friday before the game.
Hell, some forums come in and try to start the damn thread.

5 ) Reach out
There are tons of fans out there looking for a team.
The Eagles forum has several Europeans.
Mast have never been to the US, much less Philly.
Actually, one guy came for a visit and we all went out for a beer (or 30).
http://506sports.com/nfl13/02-CBS-E.png
You are on TV in 37 states this week.
When you see someone post about the Chargers, draw them to the forum.
Word of mouth works, too.
Tell your kids. Tell your wife. Tell Antoine Dodson.
But, for God's sake, have something for them to do when they get here.

6 ) More threads
I can't stress this enough.
If it wasn't for BillySpikes the Takeo thread from March would be on your 1st page.
Where is the thread about the running game?
Where is the thread about Coryell getting nominated for the HoF?
Where is the thread about guys who should have been nominated?
Where is the 2014 prospect watch? Nobody watches college football, too?

7) Hot chicks
Jiggly gifs and such ... or are you too jaded by living in SD?

8 ) Participative activities
Host some challenges.
Weekly pick'em, adopt a Charger, draft challenge, FA contest, Let's make a deal, etc.
It all encourages people to interact.
Nobody is going to come into a forum to talk to themselves.

9 ) Awards
Reward your posters with a HoF or a series of recognitions.
Could "Neutral" be your ROTY?
Is "The LBC" TopMod?
Make people aspire to something and feel good about achieving it.

10 ) Can
Don't "can't."
Just "can."

Great stuff BAMD. I'll probably get on the Game Day for the Philly game tonight and try to add some opinion and get people to share they're input.

I'm one of the bigger draft guys on here so i'll probably get on the Draft thread as well.

Yes. Well... not everyone is in So Cal, but I live a block from the beach in Hermosa Beach which is flush with eye candy.

I'm now on a mission to figure out how to make "Let's Make a Deal" work in terms of this forum. If for no other reason than I want to see Drewby in a San Diego Chicken suit.

Boltstrikes and I have talked about this and they are in the works. Tentatively scheduled right now for the Bye Week to give us something to do.

Keep your can-can's out of here. You've got your Brits, we've got our German and our Porto... no fan base wants FF's first Frenchman (and no SOS doesn't count!). Laughing

Send the suit. I'll post pictures.

I actually have a picture with the Chicken from a couple months ago. He was here at a AAA game. Still the best mascot there is.

Have someone start a news thread. I did it in the Seahawks forum a couple years back (we weren't much more active than you guys then) and it was the first Seattle thread to ever hit 100 pages. It's on it's 5th or 6th installment now.

Basically have someone create a centralized location for all news clippings like links, twitter and quotes. Some items will spark discussion and some won't, but the important part is the thread creator updating it daily. Give it a cool title that's easy to remember and it'll up the amount of activity, I promise. This will become the spot everyone goes to, to get their Chargers updates and talk about it.

Commitment and consistency is the key.

The Chargers forum needs more people overreacting, more pointlessness and nonsense. Wild theories, assumptions... Stuff like that.
Is Rivers ever going to win a ring?" type of threads. Other forums have one of that which sparks a multiple pages discussion on a yearly basis.
"Predict our record" type of threads.
In the offseason, mock drafts with the user nickname in the title.

If we had these guys in the forum, imagine when Norv was the HC, we would have several threads bashing Norv and then the Chargers would go on a winning streak, then a lot of threads praising Norv and people who defended him calling out his detractors.
The forum would be polarized by users that are against or pro Norv.
People bringing back Schottenheimer from the dead also would pop up.
Then Mike McCoy takes over, a lot more fan nonsense would come, comparisons, wild theories, assumptions.

Nobody competes in the Chargers forum to see who's the biggest football know-it-all.
Never read stuff here like "I used to play football in high school" used by someone to validate his knowledge on the game, or "I watch just too much football for my own good", so he must know wtf he is talking about then.

Peace is boring. We need russians here.

CMB is for absurd overreactions. Here it's just guys mostly agreeing with one another because they're informed.

Yeah, CMB is home to the most ignorant and reactionary fans on the planet. Our forum may lack activity, but at least we are an informed bunch.

yeah that's what I actually meant, I wasn't suggesting that you should dumb down the debate to "charge up" the forum

It's just that, if this message board were full of people, it would become exactly like the official Chargers MB (and like all the other team forums at FF as well).
