Saw this on Facebook via Steelers.com. Just a typical Q&A, but one thing in particular caught my eye....

Quote:
Roy Brown, Greensburg, Pennsylvania: You got a look at Todd Haley’s offense already. What do you think of it, is it tough?
Rainey: It’s going to be great. I know this style of offense. I have asked some of the other players if they like it and they do. They think it’s better than the one they used to have here.

Weird....I thought players loved being underutilized, and playing under a coach that regularly used poorly designed bubble screens and was a horrendous situational playcaller. Guess not.

Im looking forward to seeing this offense. I hope it matches my expectations of a top five scoring offense!

Honestly, at least for Lucks first few years, I think it will actually benefit him. Obviously, not everything, but Arians is a solid QB coach, and I think Arians offense can actually help out a young QB like his with the two TE sets (hence Fleener and Allen), and the fact that is open to what his QBs want to do (although sometimes too open) and that should make Luck more comfortable.

But once Luck develops and is ready to take it to the next level, I think he will have to get away from Arians to do it. I hardly ever defend Arians, but he wasnt quite as useless as some claim. The reason I hated him was because he limited the growth of our offense IMO, underutlized players regularly and never learned from mistakes. Not good for a veteran full of talent, but for a young team just getting its footing, I think he can have some success, especially with a young QB as talented as Luck.

yeah, I just read that as well, and it was one of those things you read, that does make you smile after you do...

mostly due to--what he said other players beside himself was saying about it, ones that possibly played under the old arians system, those kind of opinions there, if that was a vet who said that...

golden...hopefully it runs smooth, because putting up 30+ points with our defense---we can be a challenge to anyone, and nearly unbeatable if the defense holds and they score much higher...

as far as defense--I do worry about CB spot #2 and nickle.

man, I hope this haley thing works great--would be awesome to finally have a true of system, instead of a glorified wr coach who tells the QB to improvise on his badly concieved plays...

Yeah, people never mention this about Luck and the colts. We know he is in trouble, but he has 2 good TE's that could help.

If Haley uses the players well and the OL plays to expectations, this O could be up there with anyone. I am so glad arians is gone . Can there ever be enough posts of us being glad he is gone?

http://triblive.com/sports/steelers/2007561-85/colbert-offense-team-think-steelers-tackle-kevin-trib-beachum-general

Quote:
• Trib: Did anyone stand out to you?

• KC: I think we were pleasantly surprised (with rookie) Kelvin Beachum and his versatility. I think he’ll be able to play guard and tackle, and some day he might be able to play center. He’s a versatile, very intelligent kid. He was a left tackle at SMU. He’s probably a little undersized for tackle in the NFL, but he’s got the arm length and the feet. Whether he can do it at this level, who knows? But he’s athletic enough to play guard, and I think he’s smart enough to play center someday. I think (Leonard) Pope gives us some stability at the tight end position from a veteran standpoint.

• Trib: Is there a backup plan if Mike Adams isn’t ready to play left tackle, and if so, does that plan include Max Starks?

• KC: We’re monitoring (Starks’) health, we’ll see how he develops, but Max is coming off a serious injury, and his readiness we don’t know yet. We won’t know until you get closer to camp and he’s had more rehab.

I didn't want to start a new thread so I put it in here. (Not like Rainey was talked about in this thread anyway!) Laughing

Seems like Beachum is getting some kind words. I'm sure he will be nothing more than a career back-up/ fill in type player but it's good to hear another O-lineman impressing the FO. Maybe someone to push Essux.

To me Pope looking good is no surprise. I never been a fan of his but he knowing the offense should give him a slight advantage.

If Starks health checks out and he isn't 400 pounds, I could see us signing him no matter if Adams proves he can start or not. I'd rather have Starks as the Back-up Tackle over Jon Scott.

I always take praise this early on with a grain of salt. Ricky Coke and Anthony Smith (among others) got praise early on, and never did anytthing. Obviously its nice to hear, but I dont put alot into it.

IMO, the only way Id take Starks back over Adams is if Adams just looks awful. There will be some growing pains regardless and I think...unless he is just laughably bad, he can get them out of the way early. I mean hell...they gave up the starting job to Jon Scott last year uncontested.

Anyway....for once, Im a bit optimistic about the OLine. It wont be immediately great as I think some will expect, but I do think, for the first time in years, even with issues we may have, that we will see more things to be hopeful about on the line and not just a fat pit of endless despair.

nice post, i feel the same about the subjects covered here..one reassuring thought I keep is--can the steelers oline be worse than it was last year with the people they have set to play in it????

uhhh..no..and they went 12-4 with that line, and had the most lineup changes int eh NFL last year in that 12-4 run...

no, even with growing pains--the real problem was at guard last year for the steelers, the interior line..and with colon, and pouncey--and decastro probably --what was once a weakness could become a strength..

we could be suprised at the run game, and less sacks/more time...and a better playbook...

but--only thing--that many changes like 4/3 says--there can be growing pains...so, it could be rough at first...

but who can argue that at least on paper--these was good moves aquiring top 50 players at key positions this draft where they was the worst at...

hard to amke a team when they are 12-4 as a rookie, unless you are just what they need--and these picks are def what steelers needed, and can be instand improvements over what they had...

I worry about--LT/RT--because one or both will be manned--by a new guy..but i rem,ain optomistic still....

4/3 mafia--dude you kick [inappropriate/removed].really like your posts man.
