I'll forever remember the Charger game that AP outplayed LT. I mean...
Seriously though, LT is my 2nd favorite RB of all time behind AP. He was just so dominant in his prime. _________________ The Heist. |

He said some good things. His retirement was one of the better ones I've seen. Anyone else catch it on NFLN? _________________

Great runningback. Always sucks to see RBs "drop off"... too bad they can't make them last longer. _________________ "They All Wanna Be Like Willis" [song] |

Loved watching him play. Phenomenal back who really could do just about everything. I'd probably put in the Top 5 RBs ever. I'm sure some people would quibble about where he really fits, but I honestly think if he's outside of your Top 10, you have no idea what you're talking about.
First ballot for me without a question. _________________

Also, why was he a terrible person? I'm from San Diego, born and raised... He was awesome. A great role model, always helping the community. He never got into trouble off the field (from what I can tell) and stuck with the Chargers through all their bad times. |
Exactly. Surprised no one has mentioned LT's semi-annual passing TDs, I always had the impression that's what "average" fans associated with LT.
I will always remember LT destroying the Raiders and making the 2001-03 teams memorable just by himself. Greatest Charger of all time in my mind. |

I think people right now are underrating him a bit.
But in a couple of years people will look back and say "wow he was really an exceptional running back and the greatest of a decade." _________________

How did it take five pages to get the overrated because he might get injured joke made?!
One of the all time greats, but there is some debatable argument to calling him top five all time, let alone GOAT. Maybe its the fact that for most of this sites youth he was THE RB, but theres been quite a few who deserve mention in the top five that I'm not seeing on your lists (but you can argue him for that four or five spot), and to call him the GOAT at the position he plays, with the competition he has, is way too much of a kneejerk reaction.
HoF player, no doubt. One of the best of his generation, if not the best of his generation. Shame he didn't win a ring as well. But lets tap the brakes on the GOAT conversation. _________________

I kinda hate to see all time greats retire without rings but whatever. I'll always remember him as the guy who always turned into a sniveling crybaby mess when the Patriots were involved. _________________ Yo, is that time machine done yet? |

There's debatable argument but he certainly has a good case for high on the top 10 or being mentioned as potential GOAT.
I'm probably the only one really putting him that high though and it's not really a YOUTH thing because my youth was spent watching the tail end of Payton's career, Bo, Smith, and Barry. _________________ Geno Smith, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, and Bruce Irvin will all have at least 1 pro bowl season each by the end of the decade.

I don't think calling in the GOAT is a stretch.
LT's 6 year stretch between 2002-2007 might be the best 6 year period from a RB in NFL history. |

That's not to say he wasn't at times exciting, or wasn't the best at his position for many years - he was. But it's hard for me to think back upon Tomlinson's career and think of many highlights. He wasn't a spectacular highlight-reel guy like Barry Sanders, he didn't win anything, only once in 10 playoff games did he go over 100 yards (2006). He was a guy who piled up yards (rushing and receiving), could do everything you need from a RB and on an individual level was easily one of the best and most-rounded backs in the last 20 (or more) years.
However, players get remembered (rightly or wrongly) for dazzling highlight plays and big moments in big games. It wouldn't surprise me if 20 years from now Tomlinson gets a bit less recognition as he probably deserves. One thing he has going for him is with the more pass-heavy offenses and the proliferation of mult-back schemes, it will be very difficult for any RB to knock him out of 5th all time in rushing yards. Only Steven Jackson and Adrian Peterson, as active players, really have a shot to crack the top 5 |
This screams of someone who doesnt like Tomlinson because he called out the Pats. LT is one of, if not the most, well rounded RBs ever. He was a fantastic runner, fantastic catcher, and fantastic blocker. He maybe had the best "nose" for the endzone out of any RB ever.
Really, when you think of a prototypical RB, LT should be the first thought in your head. He was basically the perfect height and weight, and as already mentioned, could do absolutely everything. Trying to correlate team succes to a RB and using it as a knock is ridiculous. I guess Tony Gonzalez wont be memorable either, huh? Brian Dawkins will be forgotten in less than 5 years, right?
20 years from now, when people hear Ladainian Tomlinson, theyll think "one of the greatest RBs ever". |

He was a beast, but he's definitely not the GOAT. I'm kind of shocked that some of you really think so.
Brown, Sanders and Sweetness are the top 3. Smith is up there as well. I don't think LT is better than any of them.
You could make a case he's 5 though. _________________

For those of you wondering why LT gets the "whiner" label or anything else questioning his character, I point you to one game: 2007 AFC Championship Game. Philip Rivers played not too terribly with a torn ACL and LT, with a hyperextended knee, had 3 touches for 6 yards. The biggest game of his career and he couldn't at least try to pick up a teammate who was putting everything on the line to help his team win.
That's the singular game I'll remember from him. Overall, particularly before that game, he was nothing short of electric and dynamic. An absolute nightmare for defenses. _________________
