Chargers will announce today that they're signing LaDainian Tomlinson, so he can retire a Charger.

At only age 32, Tomlinson joins a long list of NFL legends who retired this off-season.

The 5 time Pro-Bowler and 4 time All-Pro was drafted by the Chargers 5th overall in the 2001 draft, he went on to rush for 13,684 yards and 162 total TDs in his 12-year career.

However his career is also mostly known for failure at playoffs time as he often didn't play well in the post-season.

Last season his average per carry was only 3.7.

It's a shame he never won a ring...but I figured this was coming as he just didn't seem to have "it" anymore.

Wish he could of retired on a better note, and not the state that the Jets were in. It was a pleasure having a future HOF at running back for a few years.

Loved him in 2010-2011 for the Jets. We got so close to the Superbowl, sucks we couldn't go all the way that year. No doubt HoFer.

Great career. I appreciate everything he did with the Jets. Future HOFer. Wish he could've won the Super Bowl with the Jets two years back when the Jets were so close. What a shame.

Figured it would be coming any time now. Had an outstanding career. It's a shame he didn't get a ring.

Kind of surprise that he is going to retire, but its great that he walked away from the game on his own terms and healthy.

A future H.O.F player for sure, he had an amazing career.

Never liked him as a person, but credit where it's due, in his prime he was pretty much unstoppable. That 2003 season, when he posted 5.3 YPC and 100 catches, playing with an OL consisting of guys who'd be out of the league within 2 years and a struggling Drew Brees was the stuff of legends.
The '06 season when he set the TD mark was amazing, too. Chargers were probably the best team in the league that year, but couldn't put away the Pats in the playoffs [for which I'm grateful, of course].

I came in here to say he was my favorite non Brown ever, but that would be a lie. Hes straight up my favorite football player ever. I've never been more entertained watching someone play the game than him. Best goal line weapon ever in my opinion. First ballot HOFer.

Numbers of note for Tomlinson:

145 career rushing TDs puts him 2nd all time, behind only Emmitt Smith
13684 career rushing yards puts him 5th all time, behind Smith, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders and Curtis Martin
162 career total TDs puts him Jerry Rice and Smith
18456 career yards from scrimmage has him 5th behind Rice, Smith, Payton and Marshall Faulk.
He's also one of only 3 non-kickers [along with Rice and Smith] in the top-50 all-time in points scored with 972.

I don't care how good he was. I hated him and thought he was a whiny baby. I'm glad he never got a ring.

History won't care that he was a whiney baby.
