That's a LOT of tackles for a CB. Do the Titans play an off-man CB system that tells a CB to bend but not break? The 13 PDs more or less nullifies it, as he can stop the WR from catching passes...but wow, 101 tackles for a CB is a LOT.

In 2010, Alterraun Verner had 101 and Finnegan had 100.

Not sure if the Titan's official scorer is being a bit generous or the corners just do all the tackling for that team... Laughing

Our corners have always been great in run support.

I hope we lock him up soon. If we waited and he continued improving, we'd be paying him a LOT more...

Not sure people realize this but when your front 7 has been horrible in run support the last few years, your CBs are going to get a lot of tackles especially if you had Barrett Ruud as your starting MLB. Thank god for McCarthy.

Anyway, very well deserving. McCourty's come a very long way from when he was a rookie. Definately a steal. True leader who's improved each year. Expecting a big year from him. Hell of a tackler and underated in coverage.

...but to the tune of 100 tackles? I get it that the front seven is bad, but even a blind squirl finds a nut once in a while. In this particular discussion, even a bad front seven gets a tackle once in a while.

I think it's a combo of both; The front seven is bad, but the coverage scheme is bend but don't break. It works when you have a secondary that can tackle, so don't take it as a slight. Very Happy

It happens when you don't have a great front 7 and the CB's pick up the slack. now that they have some better linebackers in McCarthy and Brown they should be some tackle munchers and McCourt and Verner should be closer to the 55-60 range.

Agreed. Plus the front four has another year of experience with Casey and Klug. Morgan is healthy finally, drafted Mike Martin, and Wimbley should be solid. I don't expect anymore 100+ tackle seasons from McCourty or Verner.

Look at Ronde's stats. He gets a lot of tackles just 'cause of the defense we run and the way we've always used him.

This is a good move for Tennessee. McCourty is a pretty good CB. I'd guess he's a big part of the reason they let Finnegan walk.

Yep and Verner of course who is more of a playmaker than McCourty but McCourty is the better tackler and leader.

Smart to lock him up for cheap.

man! 101 tackles as a corner is a hell of a feat if you ask me. he must be really good at run support. this is exactly how I like a corner to play, I wish Atlanta drafted this kid in '09.. somehow he slipped to a 6th round pick! that's unbelievable.. what a hell of a steal for the Titans.

what kind of money is he looking at?

I think it's pretty awesome that his TWIN brother is also in the NFL. Twins that both have NFL talent, with great size and athleticism is a crazy thing. From what I know, Devin is a hell of a player for the Patriots. Devin's rookie season in 2010 was unbelievable.

Devin's not a hell of a player unfortunately. In his sophomore season he fluctuated from average to horrible. Having said that, I am confident that he will capture a form closer to his rookie season than his sophomore season and have a very strong career.

I guess I didn't follow him very closely this last season.
I know about the old "sophomore slump" cliche type of thing.. but I'm surprised that after how great of a rookie season he had, that his 2nd year was as horrible as you just made it sound. Any idea on why he regressed so much?

101 tackles. Thats because he plays 10 yards off on every play.
