He could be fined $60,000 for missing the mandatory minicamp.

Jones-Drew is set to make $4.45 million in 2012 and $4.95 million in 2013, he will be a free agent in 2014.

Jones-Drew led the league in rushing in 2011 with 1,606 yards despite the lack of passing threat from the offense and also scored 11 TDs.

Gene Smith said he expects him to play out his contract. Also, according to Tania mojo may hold out into the regular season.

Good for him. He deserves to be paid way more than he is getting now. What he has done with trash around him is nothing short of amazing.

PAY THE MAN!

Management did pay the man before he became a feature back. They took a risk on him and made him the third highest paid rb 3 years ago.

And it's time to pay him again.

1,400 total yard, 62 catches, and 14 tds... "took a risk" I think not. Everyone knew what he was going to be, heck he was the man before he was the man. He out played is contract, simple as that. Guys like Gore, Williams, Peterson, Johnson, soon to be Rice are getting crazy paper... PAY THE MAN! He is the face of the franchise and it isn't even close.

So, contracts for proven veterans have gone up substiantially since then. Its time to pay up again. MJD doesnt deserve as much as Peterson, but he certainly deserves $8-9 million Per season at least. $4.5 million for an elite RB is really not fair to MJD, considering how risky his position is. If MJD can get the money, right now is the time to do it.

I hate when teams rely so much a on RB, run them to the ground, and dont compensate them for their services justly.

A player should always hold out when they overperform their contract, smart man. As a RB especially, he can expect to fall off a cliff in the next few years, so get paid now while you can.

From the team's angle:
- He signed a 5 year $31m contract. So $6.2m / year. At that point he had never had more than 200 carries a year so the Jaguars were not sure if he could carry the load.

- There is little point in adding more than one extra year to his deal (when this contract finishes he will be a 29 year old RB with 2100 career carries), and no other Jacksonville player is making more than $7m/yr over their contracts, so he is very close to the top earners already despite signing his deal 3 years ago.

From MJD's angle:
- He's the best player on the team, he's the face of the franchise, they aren't in cap trouble, and the offense will be in major trouble without his services.

- The gameplan will be to feed him enough carries that he will be washed up by the end of this deal. Why shouldn't he get more money now?

Conclusion
This isn't the Bears with Forte (where sympathies are all in one direction). Both sides have reasonable points of view. Unfortunately, I can see this one turning into a long holdout and a major distraction during camp.

It was still a risk, we didnt know if he could carry the ball 300 times a year. So, yes we took a risk on that that; if this was the final year of his contract I'd want to give him more money.

We won't be giving him a new deal. When your rb is the face of the franchise you won't be winning a super bowl in the near future. We are moving towards a balanced attack and paying Mojo now may jeopardize extending Knighton, Cox, Monroe, and other players just entering their prime.

Don't sleep on Rashad Jennings either. He's no Mojo but, most think he can be an every down back.

He needs to be paid. He could possibly be done in a few years and he deserves to get the money.

I know they want him to play out his current contract but the Jags could run him into the ground the next two years and cast him off after that. He'll be the 30 year marker.

While I understand the Jags point of view, they are being cheap with the face of the franchise.
