Joe Banner out as Eagles president
Will remain involved as Strategic Advisor to the Owner while he pursues other opportunities.
Link
| Quote: | In a seismic shift in the Eagles organization, Joe Banner is no longer the team's president.
Banner, who has been a member of the Eagles' front office since his childhood friend, Jeffrey Lurie, purchased the team in 1994, will become a strategic adviser to the owner. Lurie, however, will allow Banner to pursue other opportunities outside the organization as he fulfills his new role.
Chief operating officer Don Smolenski will replace Banner as president and run the day-to-day operations. General manager Howie Roseman will assume all of Banner's responsibilities in managing the team's salary cap and contract negotiations.
A news conference is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday. |

We've heard and seen less and less of Banner over the years, so I can't say that I'm shocked. I find it odd that they would release the info in the middle of the night however. _________________

I mostly wonder what "other opportunities" Banner could be pursuing. How do you walk away from President of the Eagles? I don't know what Banner makes/made, but I'm sure it was 7 figures. And his boss was his best friend. Hard to walk away from. _________________

Per link in OP:
| Quote: | | Whatever the characterization, Banner's drastically reduced role signals a change for the franchise in both how it is run and in its image. There used to be four heads at the table when major football decisions were made. Now there are three - Lurie, Reid, and Roseman - Lurie conceded. |

Schism?
I wonder if this was some sort of power move by Howie or AR...the presser is just a way for Banner to safe face perhaps?
Wow that sounds like the media.... _________________

He has so much money, and with his resume could probably always get a job anywhere he likes.
Plus, I'm sure he has something lined up or else he wouldn't unemploy himself without a plan. _________________

I wonder what it was? Maybe he genuinely wants to pursue other ventures.
In any case, I think the rise of Roseman really made him unnecessary. What was he really doing? Plus with Roseman's influence increasing there had to be a shift in power. _________________

Are we sure of this?
I've heard Banner was less involved in resign our players and sign FA this year, but had a lot of players who had Drew Rosenhaus as agent, and I think Banner and Rosenhaus have a bit of restrained relationship since the TO thing.
I've read someone thought Howie and Andy making a power move, but I thought it was laughable, maybe it's not too wrong. _________________

I can't be sure, but I'm positive.
I am sure though, that we won't get the full story anytime soon. Plus, Lurie is Banner's childhood friend and wouldn't leave him hanging if he didn't have to.
That's why Banner still has a role with the team. _________________

Agreed. The timing seems a little odd. Maybe Lurie and Banner got into a drunken battle last night? _________________
