Yeah Brent is a tough dude, as evidenced by some of the trouble defenders have had trying to take him down in the past. _________________

| Rotoworld wrote: | | Eagles special teams coach Bobby April was "shocked" to find CB Brandon Boykin still available in the fourth round of the draft. |
| Quote: | | April refreshingly concedes his kickoff- and punt-return units were "terrible" last season. Boykin, Georgia's all-time leader in kickoff-return yards (2,663) and TDs (4), is considered the early favorite as return specialist. Undrafted rookie WR Damaris Johnson, the NCAA's all-time leader in all-purpose yards (7,796) and kickoff-return yards (3,417), is also making a strong run. |
Love what I've been hearing about Boykin thus far. So glad we got a chance to draft him.
Having him as the slot CB of the future and our KOR specialist is phenomenal value for a 4th rounder. And I think if we can keep both he and Damaris (for PR) as our returners, our field position could be much better in general, and we could save DeSean from further injury on PR. _________________

The cornerback depth and wide receiver depth are both odd and will probably serve as examples of why a team shouldn't have so many specialists. Avant and Hanson both are specialists. They can't do their jobs on the outside. If a starter on the outside goes down, the Eagles can't benefit from the game experience that Avant and Hanson have. The Eagles will have to rely on total garbage to start games on the outside. Riley Cooper and whatever CB wins the top backup job on the outside. The situation is even worse at TE. The Eagles have Clay Harbor who has proven to posses hands of complete stone and reports are out about his stone hands surfacing during these offseason workouts where players should catch virtually everything.
I believe the Eagles are too willing to lie to themselves about "building from within" when it comes to backups. The Eagles will go out and get free agents to start but I'd like to see the Eagles acquire more experienced NFL players like Evan Mathis and Derek Landri as backups. The Eagles spend too much time trying to develop guys that belong on the practice squad (Chad Hall, King Dunlap, Brandon Hughes).
Andy Reid started out favoring the acquisition of seasoned vets, then it switched. As I sit here and type this out I believe that Reid overall is better suited to coaching up experienced NFL guys and the coaching staff he has assembled supports that. Whatever Andy's system and vision are for a franchise, I think it is more for the experienced NFL player rather than the guy without NFL game experience. There are more detailed reasons for that like perhaps Andy having a better NFL scouting department than college scouting department, but that all falls under whatever his vision/system is for a franchise. |

Yeah, it has been broken. And although it seems like they have been going on forever, the Offseason Threads were only created last year, and we got up to 3 then.
I'm glad to see us getting through 5 already, and TC isn't even here yet. _________________

I completely agree with your sentiment here. But at this point in the offseason, the ability to add quality depth is next to gone, so there will be at least another year of this philosophy.
I get the feeling that Andy is banking heavily on some of the 2nd and 3rd year players stepping up this season. _________________

You're probably right, but I wouldn't count Fokou or Clayton out yet. _________________

Rolle/Chaney
Ryans/Matthews
Kendricks/Fokou
I have a hard time leaving Clayton (and to a lesser extent Jordan) off the roster, but it will be a numbers game at the end of TC, and I think he'll just miss the cut. _________________

Fokou was awful last year, he's good as gone. Clayton has shown to be nothing more than a situation nickel linebacker, and he certainly isn't strong enough to play the run consistently in a wide-9. A reserve who can only play one spot (WILL) isn't worth keeping imo unless he's on par with the starter, like Rolle.
Kendricks at SAM, Ryans at MIKE, Chaney at WILL
Then Rolle is the main backup at WILL, Casey Matthews is the backup MIKE who can also play WILL, and Akeem Jordan is the backup SAM who can also play WILL.
Jordan and Matthews are also better ST players than Clayton. Fokou is probably better than Matthews at special teams, but we need a backup MIKE so keeping Jordan, Fokou and Rolle makes no sense. _________________

I like Fokous versatility but we already have that, and Jordan is a monster on special teams. _________________

Sure he's around. A lot of people aren't posting right now because, frankly, there just isn't anything to talk about. _________________
