He's still cheap, so it's worth a shot to see him with the new swing from the left side all year. Make Jaso our starting catcher next year, Montero in a Mike Napoli role and let him focus only on hitting. If Zunino is still swinging it in AAA, and Smoak is sucking, then have Montero as our 1B/DH and Jaso and Zunino at C. With whoever isn't catching at DH or 1B. |
This organization is completely pathetic if Smoak is pencilled in as a starter to begin next season.
Smoak should have to tear the cover off the ball for the rest of the season, & spring training to just make the team. I'll be disgusted if he's thrown out there on a regular basis next year. |
Who else, though? I mean, if they're going to make Montero the 1B then I'm fine with it, but if not, who?
Jimenez? Carp? I'd rather stick with Smoak for a month or two than that. _________________

But there's really no one in FA. As for trade, who knows. _________________

Calling the Cards about Carpenter/Adams seems like an obvious move. Maybe Ike Davis... if the Mets actually move him.
Add 1 of those guys, and mix Montero in there. _________________

Realistically who would you guys give up for a Adams or Carpenter? I don't think Adams has a future with the Cardinals with Craig at first base and his defense would be laughable in a corner spot which our OF is basically decided for a couple years with Holliday and Jay up now and Taveras starting in 2014. _________________

Depending on our future plans with Corey Hart, Mat Gamel could be had in a trade. _________________

I think a MLB reliever like Shawn Kelley & a mid-tier prospect (Guillermo Pimentel/Francisco Martinez type) would be fair. _________________

Both those homers are clear examples of the swing change. So much quicker.
He still can't hit a curve ball, though. _________________
