Meester is graded as one of the top-5 worst Centers this year.

I don't really agree with the idea of taking a RT top-5, but i do like the idea of going O-Line in the 1st round. We need to get better there.

If we're going that direction though, there's gotta be a way to trade back, grab extra picks, and pick where the value fits better on the guys we'd be looking at. Heck, i'd even entertain the idea of trying to swing a double trade-back. Cool Put us somewhere in a range to grab more of a RT prospect like Jake Matthews, where the value fits better than taking a guy like Joeckel who other teams will value much higher as a LT.

Or, as quoted, that Center spot has to be fixed. Meester is done, and i don't really think Brewster or Rackley are the answer there. So unless we think we're going to find a new C in FA...getting a guy like Barrett Jones could go a long ways in solidifying the heart of that line for years.

To be fair, we have 3 young guys on IR that are all interior linemen. I think we definitely should bring in someone though I may wait until closer to the middle rounds just because of how the talent at other positions looks right now. I know it probably sounds like I'm saying this in every thread (mainly because I kind of am) but the amount of pass rushers to be had in the first couple rounds currently looks insane.

Of course though, a lot changes between now and April.

On the first two days, I want all offensive or all defensive players unless someone falls.

Plenty in this draft, one of the real foundation/building block drafts since...well...2009.

I want like a trio of 3rd round picks. It just feels like there's a bunch of solid talent poised to fall into round 3 this year. Potential starting OLB, future starting QB, future starting WR, future starting O-Lineman, future starting CB, future starting RB, etc.

Obviously extra 2nd rounders would be better...but if we could end up with a decent-1st, our 2nd, and 3 3rd rounders...could go a long way in building this team i think.

Should never feel "set" at any position, to be honest. Dangerous thinking.

This is true. But i think what he's getting at is probably more along the lines of...we have a clear need at pretty much every position? As opposed to a good team with real 'needs' at some positions, and solid players already in place at others. Having above average starters at a position and some depth vs staffing it with fill-ins and below average players (us).

And while it is dangerous to think in terms of a position being 'set' (you can always get better, the future is always coming, and the unexpected can always happen), there does have to be some element of prioritization there for a team with glaring holes to fill and an abundance of talent at other positions. It's about getting quality starters at a weak position, over getting rotational guys or backups at a position of strength when the value is roughly equal.

Fortunately for us, we have glaring holes all over the place Laughing, so there really shouldn't be a high level of temptation to overemphasize positional needs over value. Whatever positions we pick...we probably have a significant need there. (K, P, LT and maybe MLB being the possible exceptions). Confused
