If you want Sanchez to succeed and truly become a leader. You need to surround him with younger recievers. Trying to lead a vet like Santonio Holmes is already an uphill battle. Give the kid young receivers to grow with him.
Aikman/Irvin - They joined Dallas a year apart.
Manning/Harrison- 2 years difference in draft selection.
Young/Rice- 2 year differential with San Fran.
Ken O'Brien/Al Toon- 2year draft differential
Sanchez/Hill- Let's see how they turn out. I am rooting for them. |
Sanchez/Braylon was going just fine before we decided to sign Holmes back and not Braylon. Braylon was never a guy not to like for us he went up got the ball and his hands were solid on our team. Not as if Braylon was a bad receiver in anyway.
53 Catches 904 Yards 7 TDs 16 Games in 2010 ... hardly bad statistics for us
Holmes had 51 Catches for 654 Yards and 8 TDs last season...
Losing Braylon hurt our offense last year.
Not saying we have to bring the guy back, just saying he wasn't a bad player when he was here and Holmes was far more a head case than Braylon was. He had some bad luck and got injured last year or he probably wouldn't have been a free agent right now.
Wouldn't mind if the Jets brought him back, don't feel they will tho, and don't feel like its going to be a bad thing if they do. |
I loved the Dougie/Holmes combo. But, at this point, we do not know the severity of Edwards injury. Harbaugh cut him for a reason. The Jets have not signed him for a reason. We just had a crap year were are veteran reciever (Holmes) and our QB had problems with each other. At this point, do we really want to take a chance on another "Diva" type vet receiver coming off an injury?
I do not want that. Let's develop Stephen Hill. I like Kerley as well. Hopefully Holmes steps up and really does take a leadership role and helps the team instead of poisoning the locker room. Besides, picking up another receiver at this point would be great if we were running a spread offense. But, we are going ground and pound. I am a Jet fan stuck in Miami. I know exactly what type of offense the Dolphins ran under Sparano. He has a run first philosophy. _________________

Landry is a SS, those are his strengths and thats what he does. Giving him the FS responsibilities would be a huge mistake. It wont happen. Its going to be Landry SS and Smith FS with a possibility Bush beats him out but I doubt it. Rex has a man crush on Eric Smith _________________

I'll consider bringing back Braylon Edwards only if we suffer some injuries in the WR corp. With Chaz Schilens on the team, an injury is bound to happen. Otherwise, I like the speed WRs we currently have on the team. Keep in mind, the Jets are going to be more of a running team than a throwing team. The team will throw to setup the run. _________________

If someone was to get hurt, then I would probably want Dougie back. I think he will bring a spark in the locker room. I don't recall any teammates having issues with him. Everything bad happened away from football. I was a big dougie fan, I think of the way he carried 2 patriot defenders into the endzone in the playoff game, and the big catch he had against the Colts when we needed to drive down field. But that injury sounds bad, he is still tweeting about how he is trying to recover even tho he was cut during the season. Thats not good.
But as of right now, we are stacked at WR if Chaz stays healthy. Holmes, Hill, Schilens, and Kerley is considered a pretty good group. Nice combo of Size & speed that we need to help in play actions. and if Jordan White turn out to be a good WR, we will have 5 good WR's for a "ground & pound" team. I want to see Hill take on the #2 spot full time. He has game changing speed , he can catch a screen pass and turn on his 4.30 speed up the field. and if Chaz is healthy, we have a 6'4 225lbs WR with 4.40 speed & 40inch vertical in rotation. He has something to prove to the league.
If we do sign dougie, I won't be mad. but if we don't, it doesn't matter to me. I'm happy with the talent we have now. _________________

I'd rather we not bring Edwards back. I liked him in his second year here (not his first) but would rather see Hill, Kerley, Schillens and White get the playing time.
As too "ground and pound", i think we're still going to throw the ball 25-35 times a game. |

Everyone knows my feelings on Edwards. Guy loved playing here, don't know if he still would but I think he would enjoy coming back to try to revive his career.
However, with the selection of Hill it lessened the need for us to add him. I truly think all of this depends on Hill, if he struggles I can see us adding Bray and that way letting Hill develop for a year. If Hill can be our starter right away then I doubt Bray comes back. I think someone close to training camp will give him a deal though. I think some place like Carolina would be great for him, if we don't end up signing him. _________________

BRING DOUGIE BACK!!!
If we could bring him back for a contract similar to braylons, or even less, because there seems like there is no demand, so it would be less. What would be the down side? _________________ Follow on twitter @bigdaddyfblove

Here's why I would love to have Braylon Back at the right price IF HEALTHY
- He would be playing for a pay day = extra motivation to play for the money and we've seen it time and time again people playing on prove it deals or last years of deals put out very good performances.
- For all the Diva Talk ... Braylon never once was a diva like Holmes. Never heard one negative thing with him involving football and the team all his issues were off the field.
- He had very good chemistry with Sanchez and did not have nearly as many drop problems as he had with the Browns.
- When he was here he always had the impression of being a team guy and unlike Holmes claimed he would give the team a hometown discount so to speak to stay here.
- Braylon is 6'3 and a legit vertical threat if healthy. Also notice Sanchez's problem under pressure is throwing high. A tall receiver neutralizes this to some degree.
Still doubt we bring him in but stop making him sound like some bum or some drama queen that will make us look bad he wasn't that here. If we bring him in it will be because he's healthy. |

But, who is proven? Only Holmes. Just because we have a lot of WRs doesn't mean we still can't add him, we could still use the competition. We will see though, sounds like the Bengals would be interested too. He probably won't go anyway till June at the earliest. _________________

True, but I feel like if the Jets were interested in bringing him back they probably wouldn't have used two draft picks on WR.
I hope I'm wrong, again I'd love to have him back, and I think it would be a good move. |

Well, they used a high pick on Hill, so he will obviously be on the roster. But besides Holmes, Hill, and Kerley no one's spot at WR is guaranteed. If the FO feels like they can get Bray to contribute like he did in 09 and 10 for us, then I think we may see him back and that way Hill could be brought along slowly.
If we did add Bray for a year, and he was fine health wise, imagine how sick that would be with him and Hill in the lineup? Holmes, Keller, and even Kerley could have a field day underneath. _________________

Yeah that would be nasty.
Honestly, at this point I really wish we had went with Dougie over Holmes. I'm so low on Holmes right now, the guy doesn't know how to shut up and just play.
I'm interested in what Schilens can contribute if he stays healthy too. |

I knew they would go with Holmes over Edwards, but definitely towards the end of Edwards' time with us I was really hoping he would stay. The fact he went to Jets West and everything really showed me he wanted to stay on this team. _________________
