2011 recap: "The emergence of Richard Crawford as an elite cornerback in Conference USA combined with the leadership of safety Chris Banjo gave SMU a much improved secondary in 2011. The ball hawking back end finished fourth in Conference USA in total pass defense, allowing 223.9 yards per game, but only managed to pick off three passes. Crawford led the way with two but didn't see too many balls go his way as he established himself as a lock down corner" |

And two from Iowa. We like folks from CST, apparently. |

Sounds great. Besides lack of elite competition why'd he fall? Love taking 2 corners this late. Can compete for slot duty this year and if they excel Hall and his huge salary become expendable. Really happy with this draft _________________

More likely in 2013 than this year. |

What talent did we pass up that was any better than the seven guys we currently have competing for two starting spots? This saftey class kinda sucked. _________________ You play to win the game! -Herm Edwards |

Aldrick Robinson excited about reunion with SMU teammates

When asked on Wednesday for some inside information on each former teammate, Robinson laughed.
“Josh, he’s a kitchen! He eats up everything in sight,” Robinson said of the 6-foot-3, 312-pound LeRibeus. “He’s a real funny guy. And he’s real big into video games. … On the field, he’s a real strong dude. If he gets his hands on you, he’s going to move you wherever he wants you to go.”
Robinson trained off and on with Crawford both last year and this offseason. He believes that Crawford, who transferred to SMU from Saddleback Community College, hasn’t come close to reaching his full potential as a defensive back.
“He’s real raw,” Robinson said. “Lots of talent, but he’s raw. If he gets the good coaching that we have here, he can really help us out.” |

| Cool. Sounds like they all are about in the same boat. Talented but are raw and need development, hopefully our coaches do a good job developing them. I hope they grow together and develop into the smu threesome for us. _________________

Personally, I'm happier that we went G/C, QB, G (Oh, AND T- steal of the draft?) than reaching for a ??? Safety. Not sure who was around in the 7th though. Maybe they thought another might fall to UDFA, maybe they were ok with our roster for a year. We'll draft one next year for sure though. _________________

Anyways it's over, I was just responding to Kerrdawg _________________

The only complaint about this draft for is that I would have liked to see us address the corner position higher. Boykin, Norman, Prater, etc. were all talented guys that I think can contribute their rookie years. And I think our biggest holes right now are corner, Right Tackle, and Safety in that order. The reason I'm not bummed about not taking a safety or tackle higher is because this draft was not conducive to finding starting safeties or tackles in the mid rounds. Plus I love the Compton pick. However the CB position really does scare me. Hall/Wilson is solid but after that we don't have very much. I think Cedric Griffin is terrible, but I'm sure he's a lock to make the team and be the number 3 corner.
I see our secondary like this.
CB: Hall/Wilson/Griffin/Thompson/Minnifield
FS: Jackson/Bernstine
SS: Merriweather/Gomes/Doughty
With Crawford on the Practice squad. Or I could also see Crawford on the 53 man roster if we IR Minnifield. I think Minnifield is a real keeper though, so happy we landed him. _________________
