I disagree. As much hate as Kelsay gets around here. He is a solid player and a leader in the lockerroom. He is also going back to his natural position in the 4-3. Plus Kelsay is very stout against the run.

As for the OP. Flo will be missed, he is a great trash talker, but couldnt hack it as a starter.

Also, does this mean McKelvin is safe?

I was just wondering how much cap room was freed up with the release of Florence?

I don't understand all of the Kelsey bashing. I think he acquitted himself pretty good last season and had a couple of games that I think he was or very close to the best defensive player on the field for us. I am also not convinced that Anderson is good enough against the run to play every down

If the link below is accurate, then $ 3.6 million should have been freed up, as follows:

Base Salary $ 4,000,000
Prorated Bonus 666,666
Roster Bonus 250,000

Gross Cap Avoided $ 4,916,666
Dead Cap Money 1,333,334

Net Salary Cap Freed Up $ 3,583,332

Provided the information in the link is accurate, it is important to note that before cutting Florence, the Bills already had $ 8.6 million of dead cap money (most of it from Maybin). For anyone who does not understand dead cap money, it is money paid to players no longer on the roster (for example, a bonus spread over the years of a contract for a player cut before the contract ends). Even though the players are no longer on the team, the dead cap money counts against the salary cap.

One other thing that everyone needs to remember, we carried unused cap money into 2012 from 2011 of nearly $ 20 million. If we use up all of our cap money in 2012, then we will immediately have a cap problem in 2013 (more or less for the amount of 2011 used in 2012, minus the 2012 dead cap money).

I'm surpised he didn't even last until camp. As for the Kelsey bashing, give it up. Its getting old real quick. I dare anyone to show me a play where he cost us the game due to a miss tackle or sack or whatever. I think Kelsey will start at DE with Anderson coming in on obvious passing downs.

I liked Florence's physical style of corner back, but it got him in too many defensive pass interference calls.

He is kind of like Coy Wire was for me..

Played hard.. Good guy.. Mediocre talent..

Which is fine, there is nothing wrong with that.. As long as he is not making 8 mil per year..

I was some what surprised by the news. I really thought McGee or McKelvin would be first on the chop block. I know McGee restrucured but I would take a healthy Florence than risk on McGee staying healthy. I really hope that we dont lose that experience on the back end with him. I would have liked to see how he faired with the new pass rushers this season. He was a class act and I will always remeber the JETS game when he made Sanchez look like a punk with the flinch at the line of scrimmage.

As much as Florence struggled at times, he made some big plays as well. I was really excited about the possibility of Gilmore, Williams and Florence being on the field at the same time. Those are 3 guys who are about 6' 200 lbs. All of them are long, athletic guys who can cover, press, blitz and play the run. I really thought that combination was going to allow us to do some interesting things in our secondary. Brooks is in that mold as well, though smaller, but I don't know if he is ready to jump into a nickel role just yet.

I didn't expect this so soon, but I can understand why. I think Florence had the most expense CB contract on the roster? McGee and Gilmore will likely start and they have Williams in case McGee can't stay healthy. Then of course they have Rogers and Brooks. Not sure where McKelvin fits in if at all.
