I love Ginn as a returner, but the bolded still remains my least favorite exaggeration from this year. Take away Ginn's tds, and we're still winning that game. We were never behind. Ginn helped put the game away. _________________

I think Williams and Dobbs both make the roster. Part of the reason we didn't pick a DL was because we liked their potential. Baalke even said they were high-ceiling players and they've both had good offseasons in a post day-3 draft PC. Sopoaga and RJF are both FA's next year and even if Williams doesn't have an impact, i don't think we'll risk losing him to the PS. He had 15 teams after him and they didn't think he would clear waivers last year.
Of our UDFA's, Rob Rang told Matt Barrows that RB Jewel Hampton stands out to him. Any chance he makes the roster? We could keep 4- Gore, James, Hunter, and i assumed Jacobs...but if Hampton could make Jacobs expendable that would be great. He's a power back as well (5'8, 218). _________________ -Not taking this off until the 49ers win #6 |

This is what I wrote in the rookie free agent thread:
| Quote: | | Jewel Hampton used to be a heck of a running back at Iowa. In his true freshman season, he was a very good backup to Shonn Greene, averaging over 5 yards per carry and scoring 7 TDs. Then, he missed the entire 2009 season with a torn ACL in his right knee. He played two games in 2010 before tearing his ACL in his left knee. He then transferred to Southern Illinois. So, I guess he could be a diamond in the rough if he bounces back from his injuries. He definitely looked like a future NFL player when he was at Iowa. Great vision, quick burst, hit the hole hard, always punished the player trying to tackle him. I wouldn't be surprised if he made our practice squad. If Gore goes down, we will need a bigger back that can come in and get some carries (that is if Jacobs and Dixon do not make the team). |

QB - Smith / CK / Johnson
RB - Gore / Hunter / LMJ / Miller
WR - Moss / Crabtree / Manningham / Jenkins / Ginn / Williams
TE - Davis / Walker / Byham
OL - Staley / Iupati / Goodwin / Davis / Boone / Looney / Kilgore / Beeler / Person
DL - Smith / McDonald / Sop / RJF / Tukuafu / Dobbs / Williams
OLB - Smith / Brooks / Fleming / Johnson
ILB - Willis / Bowman / Grant / Gooden
CB - Rogers / Brown / Culliver / Cox / Brock
S - Goldson / Whitner / Jones / Spillman / Robinson
ST - Lee / Akers / Jennings
Ultimately the final few spot battles are a sixth WR (KW) vs a fourth RB (Jacobs, Dixon, Cartwright), and then the fifth CB spot between Cox, Brock, and Holcomb. I hope Cam Johnson will impress this offseason and replace Haralson, but it's probably pretty likely Johnson ends up on the PS and Haralson stays on the roster. _________________

| Quote: | | On outside linebacker Darius Fleming: “Remember a year ago we went into the season shorthanded. We went in with three outside linebackers, and knock on wood, we were able to get through the season with just three. Not one of those three got injured. We were playing a little bit with fire. When you don’t have that fourth outside linebacker, not only are you thin from a position standpoint, you’re also thin from a special teams standpoint. Now by adding a guy like that, and with Cam and Parys, now you’ve got five guys fighting for four positions. … We’re glad he was still on the board at that point. Like his ability to set the edge. Like his effort as a rusher. Like the way he can drop into coverage and give us flexibility there. All his traits carry on to special teams as well.” |
| Quote: | | One thing I’ll say about Parys, I don’t know if there’s a more unselfish player in the National Football League than this guy. Usually when a guy comes in, a high pick, he’s coming in to replace somebody and that person isn’t always willing to teach him the tricks of the trade and be helpful. Parys has been anything but that. He’s been a total team guy. He understands the business and did everything he could to help Aldon get ready for the season, and he’s still doing it. |
I could see Haralson taking a pay cut or spreading money out through an extension to stay, if that's the deciding factor _________________

Is there any chance Kilgore could play C? He just played so well last preseason and i really want a young OL. If Kilgore and Looney started at C and RG, i think 4 of the 5 starters would be under 25 and Staley would be the oldest. That would give us a young line with so much potential. Goodwin was our 2nd worst lineman last year after the RG, and he's still making roughly $4M a year too. _________________ -Not taking this off until the 49ers win #6 |

I'm thinking Fleming and Johnnson compete for the 4th guy we carry on the roster and the loser goes to the PS _________________

Kyle shows flashes of being something really nice, but as young as he is, his size and inconsistency doesn't help _________________

And injuries.
My biggest concern with Kyle is how fans will embrace him (or not) and how he will handle it. Alex can handle all the BOOs in the world, we know that. But what if Kyle drops an easy pass and gets booed, and booed exponentially with every mistake. He could be spiraling down very fast, if he can't handle the pressure. I wouldn't personally boo him. Every mistake is just one mistake. But I know fans will compound all of his mistakes and boo for every single one of them at once. A dropped pass will be booed with the passion of a muffed punt in the NFCCG by many.
The only good thing I see about this is, he'll probably have all his teammates rally around him, just like after the playoff loss, when everybody stood up to defend him. But I do think the best for his career is leaving. This being said, I thought the same for Alex a year and a half ago. _________________

To me there is another factor to why he shouldn't be on the team and that's because he serves absolutely no value on special teams. If he is gonna be our 5th or 6th WR on this team then he'll really never see the field. I'd much rather keep a guy like Owusu as our 5th or 6th, even Brett Swain would compete in value with KW. My best guess is Kyle's time with the Niners is done before the season begins _________________
