I also thought I remembered reading a 54 man roster... but I'm not seeing it anywhere now. Maybe I just counted 54 beer cans on my counter?

I did read that Training Camp rosters expanded from 80-90... and always felt they should add a few more spots to the 53. Sad

I hope they moved it up to 54. That would be great. Hell, move it up to 55. Or even 56. Or even...

I think they did get it up to 54, but they used to count only 2 QBs (or 3, if a team carried 4) on the total, but now all the QBs on the roster will count towards the total. The only way a team really has one more roster spot is if it carries only 2 QBs all year, and that'd be risky.

Rudy, you're a dumbarse. That QB thing only applies to the gameday active player list thinggy. It used to be 45, not counting the 3rd QB, now it will be 46, counting the 3rd QB. Could you be any stupider!? Like, come on!

Freakin' canadian. What are you ever talking aboot?!

Are you being sarcastic with Kyle Williams returning kicks this year.....you must have short term memory loss......

Ted Ginn is an integral part of our team....in my opinon if he plays in the NFC Championship we make the Superbowl, thats how high i rate his returning ability. He is a proven commodity in returning kicks in the NFL....all the blokes you mentioned above have not proved anything yet.

The NFCCG must have clouded your memory, K-Dub was good on kick returns, I don't want him returning punts, but kick returns is a different story. He is pretty good.

And yes, I know Ginn is vital. I just think he is expendable. Plus Hunter can return too. But we'll probably keep Ginn over Williams, that's just my preference.

as you said Hunter is a solid KR, but Ginn and Cox are the only ones we know are good I in the NFL, and Cox is iffy

Yes, we're most likely ... 99% chance to keep Ginn. Even if it came down to Ginn or K-Dub the FO would probably pick Ginn. My personal preference is Williams tho because he is actually a solid WR with potential to be even better and has experience returning. Not that I want him returning punts but if all else fails, he can do it. I'd probably rather have Joe Staley or Soap out there just to call fair catches or take a knee. Wink

After the draft concluded, my first impression was Kyle Williams and Anthony Dixon are cut bait material now.

Sorry, but how can someone be vital AND expendable?

Ginn is a lock for this team. He was a top 3 returner last year and singlehandedly won us the Hawks game and if not for the ridiculous penalty, he would of made an awesome play that probably would of lead to us winning..(I know 20/20.)

QB-Alex Smith, Josh Johnson, Colin Kaepernick(I think JJ was brought in to push him)

RB-Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, Brandon Jacobs

FB-Bruce Miller

TE-Vernon Davis, Delaine Walker, Nate Byham

WR-Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, Randy Moss, AJ Jenkins, Ted Ginn, Kyle Williams

LT-Joe Staley, Alexe Boone
LG-Mike Iuapati-Daniel Kilgore
C-Johnathan Goodwin-Chase Beeler
RG-Joe Looney, Jason Slowey(Kilgore probably swings here too, if not start)
RT-Anthony Davis, Mike Person

DE-Justin Smith, DeMarcus Dobbs
DE-Ray McDonald, Will Tukuafu
NT-Isaac Sopoaga, RJF, Ian Williams

OLB-Aldon Smith, Parys Haralson, Cam Johnson
OLB-Ahmad Brooks, Darrell Fleming
ILB-Patrick Willis,, Larry Grant
ILB-NaVarro Bowman, Tavares Gooden

CB-Carlos Rogers, Tarrell Brown, Chris Culliver, Tramaine Brock, Perrish Cox

FS-Dashon Goldson, CJ Spillman, Colin Jones
SS-Donte Whitner, Trenton Robinson

P-Lee
K-Akers
LS-Jennings

Think that's 54

I think Brandon Jacobs and Ian Williams are going to be the ones on the chopping block on this roster.

PS-Scott Tolzein, Chris Owusu, Michael Thomas, Derek hall, Konrad Reuland, Curtis Holcomb

Ginn is a lock, but not for all he does on the field. He is the king of the lockerroom. Everything goes through him. Believe it or not, like it or not, he was one of our leaders last year, and he will be again this year.

Is Kyle Williams PS eligible? if so I would think either him or Owusu make the team as the 6th receiver, and the one that doesn't automatically will go to the PS.

Pretty sure that Kyle was active for too many games to qualify for the PS. Far more likely that Owusu sticks to the PS if he impresses... concussions can take a long break.

I do hope Kyle does enough to make the roster though, and that we keep 6 wideouts. Horrible returner fails and all, he was a pretty impressive WR at times in year 1, and I think he has the talent to remain a productive contributor.
