My biggest issues:
1. Trading up for Smith (I do think he's a starter). There were plenty of starters available with pick 35, and losing that early 4th meant...
2. Not trading up into round 2, when Johnson, David, and Randle were all there. Those are all starters for sure. I'd have dealt a 4th and next year's second to get one of those guys, leaving you Kalil, pick 35, and pick 45-60 as starters, with your 3rd still there.
I just wanted starters, not a bunch of 5-7th round picks. I love how enthusiatic you all are, but 5-7th rounders just don't play much. That's been shown for years now....it is not likely those guys play much. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

| Overall, I think the draft was a really good and important effort in a multi year rebuilding program. The only pick I have a question about was the choice of another tight end. |

he's a blocking TE, we dont have a blocking TE.
With Loadholt on the right side... we NEED a blocking TE.
(I already miss Bucky)

PCP. . . I like your take on how the choices were moved around, and I would've liked the Vikes to move up too in order to get 4 picks in the first 3 rounds.
Then with the two 4th Rd comp picks, they should've been able to get 4 starters; however, I read there were teams planning to take Harrison Smith at the end of the 1st Rd, so Rick made the move -- one that may well decide his tenure as GM.
As for K-sass . . . If I were him, I'd go back to ND and do some fishing and hunting . . . enjoy a year off. Then coach, if the bug bites. |

My biggest disappointment was only hitting on one more of my picks from my mock after the Kalil/Smith hits on day 1.
All in all I'm not all that disappointed. Certainly, I question some of the picks on day 3, but will hold judgment on them until I see them play. _________________

My biggest disappointment is that the packers didn't draft their replacement for Aaron Rodgers.. I was really hoping for a sign that he was nearing the end of his career.. but evidently they believe he is just hitting his prime.. which is just fan-frigging-tastic for us Viking fans.. _________________

They drafted a talented QB. BJ Coleman. _________________

Super tough schedule, 2nd year QB, awful coaching (last year, he may improve....), generally I agree, the Vikes are going to have a tough year. I am still looking at 4-6 wins. That said, with good luck (like lots of big plays from teh Vikes), they could win more.
btw, doesn't mean they had a bad draft, this team was atrocious last year..... _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

I don't see that at all. Hell a couple of wins normally separate the first 10 picks and we lost a lot of games by a touchdown.
These experts like to ignore how depleted our secondary was last year. |

I trust Sam Wyche more than Steve Wyche when it comes to analysis...and I have no idea who the other 2 are that think that the Vikings will have the #1 pick. (After doing a little research, Dameshek is a Steelers fan/blogger and Jason Smith is the former ESPN guy that did the All-Night Radio Show and is also an East Coast guy/Jets/Giants fan). In other words, I don't find them very credible.
Just looking at the rosters, I think the Vikings' roster is clearly better than that of the Colts, Browns, and Jaguars. The Vikings certainly aren't going to win the Super Bowl (or even make the playoffs), but they aren't going to have the #1 pick either. _________________

You think they'll likely be in the bottom 5-8 teams? if so, then they have a "shot" at the #1 pick with bad luck....though I'm not predicting that right now.. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

Wrote Dave Dameshek: "Sure, protecting the quarterback's blindside is important, but providing premium protection for the thoroughly mediocre Christian Ponder is like installing a $50,000 car alarm in your used Kia Sorrento."
Ouch, he didn't hold back. _________________

I see the Vikings winning 6-8 games. That may be alot to some people, but we start off with a soft schedule. And look at why we lost games last year. We lost because our QB had no time to throw and was running for his life, as well as our HORRIBLE secondary. But both units are much improved imo.
Secondary improvements:
Chris Cook coming back - Our best DB, and he should have a solid season barring trouble or injury.
Antoine Winfield coming back - Yeah i know he is getting old. But he is still a solid nickel CB, and he probably isnt gonna be asked to play on the outside.
Chris Carr - Carr is alot better than Benny Sapp and Cedric Griffin, both of whom started alot of games for us last year. And he brings depth to that unit.
Zach Bowman - He isnt gonna make a huge impact but he is also better than some of the bums we had playing last year. Brings depth and a threat for INTs.
Josh Robinson - Josh is the perfect compliment to the big Chris Cook. He is small and really quick. I think he will be the starting RCB by midseason, and even though he's a rookie he will be an improvement. (over Griffin)
Harrison Smith - A legit safety, and we havent had one of those since Sharper. His presense will be felt immediately.
Oline improvements:
Matt Kalil - He will immediately step in at LT and be a solid player. Alot of people dont realize the impact an elite LT can bring, because we have never had one.
Moving Charlie to LG - Charlie is best suited to be a G, and he played well at G with the Colts. Most likely to be an improvement over Hutch.
Swartz - Geoff is a nasty player who could start at RG. And at the worst bring solid depth behind Load and whomever is the RG.
Contract year for Phil - Mostly all players step up their game in their contract year. And i think Phil is no different, he is gonna work hard to improve in his last year. I think he will be the player we saw his rookie year.
AND last of all, Christian Ponder will have a full offseason under his belt and some new weapons. (Simpson, Childs, Wright, Carlson)
So imo we vastly improved our weakest links of last season, and we will see a difference in performance. _________________
