Strengths: As soon as you put on the tape, you notice right away that he does a great job of playing with good pad level which lowers his center of gravity and makes him tough to take down. Does a great job getting upfield after cutting at the corner. Does a good job running in between the tackles, finishing his runs running hard. A decisive runner that once the hole opens up, he hits the hole hard. Does a great job using his vision to find the open holes by the offensive line. Does a pretty good effort in pass protection, so he's got three down value. Shows the capability of being a good receiver out of the backfield with his soft hands. Might be a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none of them in terms of RB skills. Had a really good showing at the Shrine Game which gave him a chance to play with players that were a bit closer to his talent level.
Weakness: Not great in the open field, lacks the ability to make that last guy miss. Isn't very fast and isn't going to outrun a bunch of defenders at the next level. Isn't a real big back either. Tries too hard to bounce things outside too often, especially when it isn't there. Not nearly as comfortable between the tackles. Has a history of lingering injuries that seem to hamper his production. Production isn't what you'd expect from a running back, even if he is playing in the SEC.
Overall: I really like Tauren Poole a lot and think he could be a decent starting running back for a team down the road. You probably won't get a star out of Tauren, but a good starting running back in the later rounds is always good value. There isn't a ton of value with him, and given the lack of value with running backs being taken early on in the draft, he could turn out to be a pick that turns out a decent starter for a few years. He's got a chance to come in and play significant amount of snaps as a rookie. |

Tauren Poole has been one of my first prospects I fell in love with. That is a great signing.
I also love the rishaw Johnson signing, he could be a steal looking back on this draft!
