Seeing as we have about 362 days to the next draft, I thought we should start speculating on who/what we are targeting to improve the team. It is never to early to talk draft !

The only spots I can see at this early stage are ILB/OLB and DL for the 1st round, the rest of the rounds can fill depth, no point discussing them atm.

We have invested too much into the other positions currently to go high on them next year at this early stage.

That being said, I am all for Jarvis Jones OLB Georgia or Manti Téo ILB ND if we are playoff bound or just miss out.

If we completely stink, then no brainer has to be a QB, either Barkley, Murray (my favourite atm) or Wilson. I want no part of Sam Bradford 2, Landry Jones.

Thoughts?

If we are still in the situation where our quarterback play is inadequate I would trade the house to get up and select Matt Barkley. At this stage I think he is quite easily the best QB in the upcoming draft and is on a similar level to Andrew Luck. If he can tweak some of his accuracy issues he is going to be one heck of a QB prospect.

Safety is one spot that we will need to keep an eye on with Rhodes struggling a bit and having an out clause, and Wilson not getting any younger. Robert Lester and TJ McDonald are probably the two best right now.

Chase Thomas (Stanford) and Sean Porter (Texas A&M) are a couple of OLB's not mentioned yet.

Not sure he is going to have as much of an impact in the NFL as he is in the NCAA right now. He is not good in man coverage, especially when he is out matched in terms of size. He is not a safety in the NFL (Nor at LSU), nor is he an outside corner. Are we going to spend a 1st round pick on a guy who is going to be a nickel corner (Might fit well within our schematics with the nickel corner/safety combo role).

He might struggle to play as close to the LOS as he has at LSU in the NFL too.

Think about this for a second, teams usually list their players slightly bigger than they actually are and Mathieu is listed at 5-9 175, he is tiny, the hits are going to take a toll on his body very quickly.

I see what you are saying...but i think he fits into our D perfectly. He does like to tackle, he is a stripping machine, and he has football instincts. While our QB play is horrid and if it was a choice between one of the top 3 qb's coming out next year and the badger its hands down a qb.

Just to clear it up the qbs i have ranked are
1.Barkley, USC
2. Bray, Tenn
3. Wilson, Arkansas

But i would not mind holding out for braxton miller in 2014 lol

Honeybadger is cool

1st round is a little high for a nickelback though

Would be happy to draft someone, then trade back in for him.

If we are going CB, Xavier Rhodes from FSU is good size and talented.

I think Barkley is a better prospect than Sanchez was coming out, but he is not quite on Andrew Luck's level. either way, if by trading the house you mean three firsts +...no thank you.

i have not completely made up my mind on Barkley yet...he has some pretty impressive game tape out there. but at the same time, so did Matt Leinart and Mark Sanchez. USC QB's have been fools gold to NFL teams, and while Barkley may be different i am not completely convinced yet.
