For forcing a tie at the end of regulation and breaking the tie in overtime, kicker Blair Walsh got a tie in return. Zygi Wilf's necktie.
Apparently, the Minnesota Vikings owner occasionally rips off his tie and awards it in the locker room to the star of the game.
Walsh: “I guess that’s his thing to do, sort of a gift tie to whatever player he felt like he wanted to give it to that game. That was funny. Like literally off his neck and threw it at me. I didn’t know what to expect. I was like, ‘Alright.’”

Blair Walsh kicked himself into NFL history.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Blair Walsh was the third player to win his NFL debut by kicking an overtime field goal – joining Matt Bahr (1979 Steelers) and Todd Peterson (1994 Cardinals). But Walsh was the only one of those three to also send the game to overtime with a field goal.

Looks like Adrian almost knocked his block off before he hit the 55-yarder.
| Quote: | Despite being a rookie, Walsh calmly hit both pressure-filled kicks. He had a little help relieving the tension as he jogged on to the field before the first one.
“(Adrian Peterson) slapped my helmet and kind of turned it actually, and I was laughing when I ran on the field,” said Walsh. “I couldn't believe anyone would do that. Most people don't want to touch the kicker or talk to them. Christian Ponder gave me a low high-five as he walked by and Adrian slapped my helmet. I don't think he knows how strong he is.
"He actually broke my concentration a little bit, and I just thought ‘this is ridiculous. Let's go hit this kick.'” |

Must have been intimidating for him. You certainly dont want to mess with a kicker as they tend to be mentally weak, but maybe Peterson pushing him on was what he needed. Take the edge off. |

| Oh wow! Just realized! Jayme Mitchell was traded essentially for Blair Walsh. Minnesota got Cleveland's 6th round pick for Mitchell and they picked Walsh with it! Nice trade. |

What's funny is Mitchell never played for the Browns. So Cleveland just gave Minnesota Blair Walsh LOL. I know they have Phil Dawson but that's just awesome. |

I still think that "Project" is a great nickname.

Paul Edinger holds the Vikings record for longest field goal, 56 yards, in 2005. Walsh now is tied with his predecessor, Ryan Longwell, who kicked his 55-yarder in 2007.

and took him all of one game in the pros to tie Longwell's longest.

Love it but you're jinxing him placing all those gaudy stats in a neat, attractive assemblage like that.
