Damn, that's a long wait for Walsh to break the FG record. _________________

It'd be more impressive if he did it anywhere else.
only because there's a greater advantage kicking in Denver than anywhere else.
Where else have long kicks been made (62 to 63 yarders)? Was there any advantage/disadvantage for the kickers in those games? _________________

If the Vikings play outdoors in 2014-2015 he may get a few attempts with a strong wind at his back. _________________

David Akers did it at Lambeau. _________________

the original 63 yard kick by Tom Dempsey of the Saints that held the record by itself for a few decades was kicked at Tulane Stadium, outdoors.
Dempsey's 63 yarder has been equaled three times since then, and two of those kicks happened at Denver (by Elam and Janikowski). the other at Lambeau by Akers.
i guess it should be noted that Dempsey, being from the old era of kickers, was the only one of the four 63 yard record holders to kick non-soccer style. and no, his special shoe gave him no advantage, that has been determined.

Smaller lineman in the past could have helped him previously.
Likely didnt need to put moderate height on the flight to clear the defense linemans jump _________________

gosh, i'm not sure about that.
because in the 70's, a LOT more kicks got blocked than they do now. particularly by the Vikings, they were GOOD at it! _________________

Walsh is more accurate kicking an oblong ball with his instep through an elevated rectangle 50 yards away than some NBA superstars are shooting free throws.

Dec 23 - Walsh kicked a 56-yard field goal against the Houston Texans to set an NFL record with nine field goals of 50 yards or longer this season. The record was held by two players who had eight in a season. Jason Hanson of Detroit did it in 2008 and Morten Andersen had eight in 1995 with Atlanta.
Walsh is 9 for 9 on field goals of 50 yards or longer this season. The 56-yard kick also ties a Vikings record for longest field goal. Paul Edinger had a 56-yarder in 2005.

He cleared that 56 yard attempt with about 10 yards in the air thru the uprights. Beast of a leg. _________________

I think people are crazy at thinking its not worth it to draft a kicker. _________________ XBL/PSN: Chainedsniper |

I'm all about drafting starters.
I would be perfectly fine if they decided to draft a P in those late rounds (if they wanted to move on from Kluwe for example). _________________

Walsh, following the Houston game: "I honestly haven't thought much about [records.] Once the game got going, I lapsed on what my season long or career long was. I knew it was in the 50s, but I was just trying to make them. We got a touchdown lead with that last field goal. These kicks today weren't meaningless field goals. We're not out here to break individual records or have individual stats. We want to win games, and if the records happen, that's awesome."

That kick was crazy, and I love Priefer before the game saying he was okay with Walsh kicking the ball as long as they were on Houston's side of the 50.
That kick easily could have made it from record breaking distance. _________________
