Was always intrigued by this guy, never fully scouted him though. Can't give an opinion either. _________________

I really would have preferred Mike Daniels for a pass-rushing DT. But I assume Pete knows what he is doing. _________________ Trying is the first step towards failure

He can rush the passer and was a highly rated DE coming into college. Good size/speed. He also knocked down a ton of passes.
He doesn't have elite strength but I think he has enough to a be a pass rusher on the inside and could develop even further.
This quote from CBSSports worries me though
| Quote: | | Has streaky snap anticipation and needs to develop better reaction skills. Recorded too many facemask and offsides penalties, struggling with poor discipline ... easily jumps off hard counts. |
Nothing drives me more insane than defensive penalties, Especially getting a 5 yard penalty for encroachment/offsides even before the snap. _________________ GO SEAHAWKS GO!

They're overrated & not making the Playoffs next season.
8-8 or 9-7 best for Seattle. (& No Playoffs) |

Not a great pick but not a bad pick. May not see alot of action this year but he could develop into a nice pass rushing DT for us. _________________

| He fits the range, and should be a good run stopper. |

I was thinking of someone completely different when we first made the pick. Just decided to get up and take a look at my notes on Jaye Howard and the pick isn't as bad as I initially thought.
For those that care about it, Howard had a 0.94 explosion rating (Fletcher Cox had 0.88, Coples had 0.92, Crick 0.90) and a 0.81 agility rating which was among the best in the class at his position.
Definitely a late round Pete pick. Great athleticism and he has potential if we can work on his overall strength and technique. I expect him to be moved around from UT to LDE, but I imagine his main position is going to be Red's backup with the type of athleticism he can bring to the edge while also having the size capable to man it. _________________

Jaye Howard interview
Says he played every single position on the line at Florida.
Favorite thing to do is rush the passer. _________________

He's got a lot of natural ability but looked lazy to me in college. So was Alan Branch however. Hopefully we can get something out of him _________________

yea, pete carroll's competition should take care of that laziness. If not....we'll know when he doesn't make the team. That's what i love about the competition, it helps you know what your dealing with pretty quickly in my book. _________________

I really don't think it's laziness.
Dan Quinn raved about the kids work ethic and he was the defensive captain on Florida this past season. You don't name a lazy guy team captain.
He just plays with overall poor technique and weakness really. Once a linemen gets his hands engaged Howard just cannot fight him off for the most part.
Howard said he learned a good deal of technique from Quinn in his last year where otherwise the staff didn't focus on it. Maybe more repetitions with technique and time in the weight room will help him, but I'll just say my standards are low for this selection. _________________
