over Childs' college career, he averaged 15+ yards per catch, and a TD every 8 receptions.

The Vikings are convinced Childs is past his injury setbacks and can concentrate on regaining his top form. If he does, the Vikings' gamble could be well worth it.

Remember, it wasn't A.J. Green or Julio Jones who posted 135 receiving yards against Florida and talented cornerback Janoris Jenkins in The Swamp in 2009.

It was Childs.

"There weren't too many guys that were necessarily better than me," Childs said of his receiver status pre injury.

Id really like to see the player he was last year after the injury.

There are no Childs-only videos from 2011, but here are videos from a couple of his best games

vs Auburn (4 catches, 44 yards): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swbDzsG_Kaw
vs Miss State (3 catches, 32 yards): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tgbi0EwSiSM

How many here think he is the starting WR by week 1?

Thats an interesting question. I expect Jenkins/Simpson/Harvin to be the starters for the season. However, we won't have Simpson for the first 3 games so one of the young guys will have a chance to start for those game. I would bet on Childs, if he shows enough in those games than I believe we go forward with Childs/Simpson/Harvin as our WRs.

I agree. Thats where the opportunity will be, in those first 3 games. If he proves to be legit, then he probably stays in that starting lineup.

It would also be awesome if Jarius Wright showed some promise too. He could be our slot, and we could move Percy all around. Where he is the most dangerous.

If nothing else I hope Wright will allow us to move Harvin out of KR and PR roles, so he doesn't get hurt. Nothing worries me more than seeing Harvin back there on those plays.

I don't think they should keep Harvin off KR at all.

Oh! Here's another article dissecting how good Childs was:

If he can stay healthy and continue to progress...well we might have gotten the next Colston.

The injury that Childs suffered can take anywhere from 1.5 - 2 years to fully recover from. He was rushed back into action in 2011, and it showed in his limited production. Not to mention the depth of the Arkansas recieving corps, which meant there were other, healthier options.

Fact of the matter is, that the upcoming NFL season will be the first fully healthy season for Childs since 2010.

Yeah thats what ive heard as well. I heard 18 monthes to recover.

But if he can return to the form he was as a jr, we might be looking at our future number 1 WR. He certainly has the tools.

He's got very big hands, a great vertical, and great body control. I think that he is going to surprise people with is route running. He really sells his route well at the line of scrimmage.

The best part is that he never gives up on a route, and always comes back to the QB. Watching his 2010 tape was fun because he was the guy that bailed out his QB more often than not.

I really hope that Ponder can develop that Favre/Rice style chemistry with Childs, and use cadence to draw offside penalties. One of my favorite memories from 2009 was watching Favre draw the offsides and chuck it up to Sidney Rice. Childs seems like he could do some of the same things.

He'll probably get Simpson spot during his suspension. If he can impress then he'll over take Jenkins for the #1 receiver.

I really like this pick.
