I'm mad as a Lions fan because I loved Smith and wanted him bad in Detroit. Now I not only can't root for him, I have to root against him. Good first round guys. Im a jealous, even though I am happy with Reiff. _________________

Smith is a legit starting safety, no one else on this roster fits that bill. This was a very good pick. |
Almost ANYONE is an upgrade at our Safety position, it's that pathetic. |
Then why do you hate the drafting of a SAFETY? _________________ "Man, Adrian Peterson doesn't get tackled. He just decides that's enough for one carry."

Raymond is nothing better than a backup/special teamer. |
Oh so we have Smith and no one then? We drafted another SS? Great. |
In the Vikes scheme, there is literally no difference between the Free and the Strong Safetys. They both play deep halves and generally dont switch sides all that often.
Smith is a free safety for non cover 2 teams. |

So the problem with drafting the 2nd best safety is what exactly? _________________

I am a-OK with this pick.
I don't think they needed to trade up to get him; I think he would have been there at the top of the second. But we didn't give up too much to move up.
I don't know much about this guy, so can you guys answer some of my questions? Does Smith excel in coverage? Is he a ballhawk? Was he a frequent playmaker in Notre Dame's secondary or was he more of the un-flashy but reliable type? _________________

He's the 2nd best safety in a weak safety class. Hmmm the last time we did this, who did we get? The second Safety taken I believe. Oh ya, Tyrell Johnson. I don't have a problem with the player, I have a problem with moving up for him. _________________ Welcome to Minnesota, Greg Jennings.

I think the Kalil over Claiborne thing is still gnawing at him! _________________ "Man, Adrian Peterson doesn't get tackled. He just decides that's enough for one carry."

Why? we didn't give up anything of significance. We got a 4th from Cleveland, we gave away a 4th to Baltimore. Nothing lost. _________________

Wow Frank Costello...be more negative.
Our Safety play was atrocious and has been for the last 3 years. Mystral Raymond is not a good starting Safety, hell he isnt even a good backup safety. Sanford is a special teams guy, not a starting safety.
We absolutely needed a safety, anyone could be an upgrade, but not everyone would be a significant long term upgrade. Smith might be. |

Indeed. It is pathetic. Which is why we need a safety so badly. Which is why this is a good pick. I really don't see your point. _________________

Physical, smart, very good tackler. He struggled last season with INT's but had 7 in 2010. |

Are you serious? You are mad that we drafted a safety in the late first round because we already have a 6th rounder at that position? _________________ "Friends dont let friends be Packer fans"

People need to read a whole thread and not just ONE post from me.
I am mad we traded up as we could have had him at 35. Our FO is so head over heels for ND players its sickening. Did Rick go to school there or something? Is Rudy his favorite movie? So we have Jamarca Sanford and Harrison Smith? Going places.com _________________ Welcome to Minnesota, Greg Jennings.

It is not 100% guranteed that he would still be there at 35. This way we made sure we got our man and we only had to give up one of our FOUR 4th rounders. No big deal _________________ "Friends dont let friends be Packer fans"
